Role Description

This role involves joining a team focused on putting customers first and participating in the Actuarial Student Program at The Standard.

Grow actuarial knowledge, business acumen, and leadership skills.
Progress through the levels of the job family based on academic/exam achievements.
Develop analytical skills, independent decision making, and effective communication and leadership skills.

Typical functions include:

Valuation:
- Calculate reserves and liabilities in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Review and maintain actuarial assumptions relevant to area of practice.
- Test the adequacy of reserves and formulate recommendations.
Actuarial/Experience Studies; Financial Modeling/Asset Liability Management (ALM)/Risk Management:
- Gather and analyze data to understand profitability, growth, and risk.
- Create and maintain models for ALM, risk management, and regulatory requirements.
- Communicate findings to management for strategic guidance.
Financial Reporting/Regulatory:
- Prepare the actuarial portion of financial statements.
- Analyze financial results and identify drivers of earnings trends.
- Research complex regulatory issues and design effective methods for implementation.
Data Analysis/Information Systems:
- Extract, analyze, and prepare data for actuarial modeling.
- Run and maintain actuarial software and applications.
- Design and maintain open-source code applications for financial risk analysis.
Cross Collaboration:
- Communicate and collaborate with various departments.
- Provide strategic guidance using data and analysis.
Actuarial Exams:
- Prepare for and pass actuarial exams and maintain continuing education requirements.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in mathematics, actuarial science, business or a related field preferred.
Demonstrated experience in an actuarial capacity required (0-1 yr.)
Successful completion of one (or more) actuarial exams/online courses.

Requirements

Analytical Skills: Ability to apply relevant actuarial and economic theories and standards.
Independence: Ownership of routine work and improvement of processes/analysis.
Influence: Effective team player with collaborative working relationships.
