Role Description

The Thermal‑Hydraulics Engineer 3 is an experienced technical contributor within the Nuclear Methods group of the Nuclear Fuels organization. Reporting to the Manager, Nuclear Methods, the engineer works in close coordination with various groups and partners across other Engineering disciplines, Licensing, and Operations. This role will apply industry best-practices and knowledge of state-of-the-art methods to support development, validation, and licensing of new methods in areas including thermal-hydraulics, coupled codes, and reload safety analysis.

• Contribute to development and validation of next‑generation multi‑physics methods integrating subchannel TH, system TH, and neutronics.
• Support method qualification efforts including benchmark selection, acceptance criteria definition, and comparison against experimental data or legacy reference analyses.
• Prepare and verify subchannel analyses, including steady-state and transient margin evaluations and CHF predictions.
• Prepare and verify coupled TH evaluations, including LOCA, non‑LOCA transients, and design‑basis evaluations.
• Work collaboratively within the Nuclear Fuels organization to ensure design and analysis interfaces are adequately managed.
• Contribute to technical development of licensing technical or topical reports, license applications, and other licensing documentation.
• Prepare and verify engineering reports, calculations, studies, system descriptions, requirement specifications, and other design documents.
• Provide technical leadership within Thermal Hydraulics; mentor junior engineers and lead analysis tasks.
• Develop resolutions to complex problems that require creativity and innovation.
• Perform other duties as assigned, flexibly supporting changing organizational priorities.

Qualifications

• A minimum of B.S. degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering (or related discipline) from a four-year accredited college or university is required.
• An advanced degree in Nuclear, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering is desirable.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of full-time, directly relevant engineering experience is required.
• Experience in implementing engineering design processes for subchannel thermal-hydraulics, transient analysis, and related safety analysis is required.
• Experience in neutronics or fuel performance preferred.
• Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.

Benefits

• The target pay range for this position is $108,908 - $131,441 annually.
• The full pay range is $97,642 - $152,722 annually.
