Role Description

Canterra Group has been retained by an established, highly respected and growing Canadian consulting engineering firm to recruit a Senior Structural Engineer and Business Development Leader for its Halifax operations. This is an exceptional opportunity for an entrepreneurial structural engineering professional who has built strong relationships within the Nova Scotia construction and development community and is ready to take on a more influential leadership role.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Developing and maintaining strong relationships with architects, general contractors, developers, building owners and other key clients.
• Identifying, pursuing and securing new structural engineering consulting opportunities throughout Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada.
• Leading business development initiatives, preparing proposals and negotiating professional service agreements.
• Providing technical leadership and oversight on structural engineering projects involving a variety of building types and construction materials.
• Building and managing a portfolio of projects encompassing commercial, residential, institutional, industrial and other building sectors.
• Working collaboratively with engineering professionals across the organization to deliver practical, innovative and cost-effective solutions.
• Mentoring and supporting engineering staff while contributing to the continued growth of the practice.
• Participating in strategic planning, market development and long-term business growth initiatives.

Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licence in good standing with Engineers Nova Scotia — required.
• Extensive experience in structural consulting engineering, with a strong background in the design, assessment and modification of buildings.
• Proven business development success, including developing relationships and generating consulting engineering assignments from architects, contractors, developers, building owners and other clients.
• An established professional network within the Halifax and Nova Scotia building design and construction markets.
• Experience delivering structural engineering services across a variety of building types, including new construction, renovations, additions, rehabilitation and restoration.
• Strong technical knowledge of structural systems and materials, including steel, concrete, masonry and wood.
• Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships, develop proposals, secure projects and oversee successful project delivery.
• Excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills.
• A genuine interest in business growth, leadership and the opportunity to progress toward Partnership.
• Previous experience as an Associate, Principal, Department Manager or Practice Leader would be an asset, although we are equally interested in successful Senior Structural Engineers who have demonstrated strong business development capabilities and are ready for their next challenge.
