[Hiring] Senior Engineering Manager, Platform @GiveDirectly

Role Description

We’re hiring three Senior Engineering Managers to own domains of our cash delivery platform at a moment of rapid growth:

• Own one domain of our cash delivery platform — payments, core platform, or data collection.
• Directly manage a team of 5–7 senior engineers.
• Partner with product counterparts on roadmap and delivery.
• Own operational details (on-call, incident response).
• Maintain and scale a strong engineering culture through rapid growth.
• Optimize for recipient impact, focusing on integrations with mobile money rails and delivery in low-connectivity contexts.
• Learn our programs and the realities of our field teams.

Qualifications

• Exceptional alignment with GiveDirectly Values.
• 3+ years managing software engineers through full delivery cycles.
• 8+ years of overall industry experience building production software.
• Demonstrated ability to recruit, coach, develop, and retain engineers.
• Track record of building a strong engineering culture.
• Strong technical judgment driven by the mission.
• Energized to build product-development fluency in a relatively new organization.

Requirements

• Language Requirement: English.
• Ability to travel ~3-4 times per year to one of our countries of operation for team retreats or field visits.

Benefits

• Base Salary (US): $181,130.
• Bonus at Target Performance (US): 15% (~$27,170).
• Estimated Total Compensation at Target (US): $208,300+.
• Annual Benefits Stipend (US): $21,393.
• Base Salary (UK): £124,370.
• Bonus at Target Performance (UK): 15% (~£18,656).
• Estimated Total Compensation at Target (UK): £143,026+.
• Annual Benefits Stipend (UK): £2,760.
• Base Salary (Kenya): $112,350.
• Bonus at Target Performance (Kenya): 15% (~$16,853).
• Estimated Total Compensation at Target (Kenya): $129,203+.
