[Hiring] Senior Engineering Manager - Patient Engagement @Docplanner

Role Description

Docplanner is fostering the reinvention of product development, specifically transforming how we approach coding with AI. We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager who will lead this transformation from the front lines, while owning the Patient Engagement area.

• This isn't a hands-off management role. It's designed for a leader who stays deeply hands-on in the code and pioneers AI-enabled development practices, while leading a small, high-caliber team — one Engineering Manager and a group of 4-6 senior individual contributors.
• The role is intentionally weighted toward Lead Through Code (≈70%), with the remaining ≈30% split between growing your team and driving technical transformation.
• You will be a driver of our AI-powered product development transformation, working directly with code, teams, and the wider Engineering community to fundamentally reimagine how we build patient-facing software.
• The scope is meaningful: Patient Engagement initiatives that directly impact how people interact with their healthcare, focusing on engagement, retention, and continuity of care.

• Your team is delivering faster and at higher quality, with AI-enabled workflows becoming the default way of working.
• Your team — the Engineering Manager and engineers reporting to you — are visibly growing, engaged, and raising their own bar.
• You're personally shipping — writing code and delivering features at a healthy, steady pace — setting the bar for what good AI-enabled development looks like in practice.
• Patient Engagement is showing tangible improvements in engagement, retention, and continuity of care.
• Other teams start knocking on your door, wanting to understand your workflows, adopt your practices, and replicate your results.

What You’ll Do

• Lead Through Code (≈70% hands-on)
• Solve real patient engagement and continuity challenges through hands-on coding, using cutting-edge AI development tools (e.g. GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) to demonstrate new possibilities.
• Prototype and build solutions that showcase AI-enabled development practices in patient-facing products.
• Work directly in your teams’ codebases, not just reviewing, but implementing features and architectural changes.
• Experiment with and establish AI-powered development workflows, then teach others through direct, hands-on demonstration.
• Drive Transformation & Technical Leadership (≈30%)
• Lead a team of one Engineering Manager and 4-6 senior engineers owning their growth, performance, and hiring, and coaching the Engineering Manager to multiply your impact.
• Partner closely with Product and Design to solve real patient problems end to end.
• Pioneer new AI-enabled development practices in Patient Engagement, prove they work, then help scale them across engineering.
• Influence the wider Engineering community by example — sharing what works, partnering rather than mandating, and helping teams adopt AI-enabled ways of working.
• Track and communicate impact with concrete metrics — delivery speed, quality, developer satisfaction, and product outcomes.

Qualifications

• Solid hands-on experience using AI to accelerate software development, improving how code is written, reviewed, and refactored.
• Experience in complex software delivery, including regulated environments where quality and reliability matter.
• Ability to inspire others and consistently deliver results.
• Thrives in ambiguity and enjoys being the first to try something new.
• Genuine enjoyment in teaching and mentoring others.
• Focus on building software that is faster, better, and more impactful.
