[Hiring] Senior Engineering Manager @HumanSignal

Role Description

HumanSignal is looking for a manager to lead our engineering team. The role involves:

• Managing the team directly: 1:1s, feedback, performance, promotions, and addressing challenges.
• Owning delivery to ensure that what we decide to build turns into shipped software on a reliable schedule.
• Helping team members develop their skills and become better professionals.
• Staying hands-on by writing and shipping code to make informed technical decisions.
• Using coding agents in real work to improve team performance without mandating tools.
• Challenging architectural decisions and explaining tradeoffs to help the team choose maintainable approaches.

What you’ll own

• Delivery: Planning, scoping, and shipping quality software against a roadmap you help shape.
• How the team works: Providing enough structure for predictable delivery while minimizing friction.
• People: Hiring, setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and managing growth.
• Technical judgment: Staying close to the code and architecture to support engineers without being an approval gate.
• The engineering response to escalations: Involving the right people, making priority calls, and addressing recurring issues.

What we’re building

• A ground-up rebuild of the annotation editor, with interfaces generated by coding agents.
• Native evaluation of agent trajectories: trace ingestion, replay, and hybrid workflows.
• Continuous calibration of automated evaluators against human ground truth.
• The workforce platform behind our managed services business.
• Quality analytics across annotators, models, and programs.

Who we’re looking for

• At least a couple of years managing engineers.
• Experience hiring, developing people, and making difficult decisions.
• A strong engineering background with sound technical judgment.
• Enjoyment in building software and using coding agents effectively.
• Experience shipping at a startup and making decisions with incomplete information.
• Ability to provide specific feedback and communicate openly.
• Capability to balance long-term product work with customer deadlines.

Nice to have

• Experience with ML tooling, data platforms, or evaluation systems.
• Experience managing a distributed team.
• Frontend architecture depth.
