[Hiring] Senior Electrical Design Engineer @Gridworks

5d ago - Gridworks is hiring a remote Senior Electrical Design Engineer. πŸ’Έ Salary: unspecified πŸ“Location: USA

Role Description

Gridworks is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead electrical design for utility-scale solar and battery energy storage projects. The Senior Electrical Design Engineer owns the electrical design on assigned projects from preliminary design through issued-for-construction (IFC), works with the drafting team, and serves as Engineer of Record when required.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in electrical engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in any U.S. state; NM licensure preferred, or ability to obtain it by comity
  • 5+ years of electrical design experience on utility-scale PV, BESS, or substation projects
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electrical principles, components, and systems
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and working familiarity with AutoCAD
  • Modeling software experience: ETAP, WinIGS, or CYMCAP (or equivalent)
  • Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards: NEC, NESC, IEEE (including IEEE 80 and IEEE 2800), and IEC

Requirements

  • Direct development of detailed electrical drawings, including single-line and three-line diagrams, schematics, layouts, and details, with drafting team.
  • Design electrical systems for PV and BESS including DC and AC collection, medium-voltage collector systems, grounding, and auxiliary power, from preliminary design through 30/60/90%, IFC, and as-built.
  • Prepare equipment specifications to support major equipment procurement, and review vendor submittals and drawings (inverters/PCS, transformers, switchgear, cable, etc.).
  • Serve as Engineer of Record: seal drawings and calculations, and perform QA/QC reviews of design packages prepared by other engineers.
  • Build and maintain system models using industry-standard software (ETAP, CYMCAP, WinIGS, or equivalent).
  • Perform and review electrical studies, including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, protection coordination, cable ampacity, grounding, and voltage drop, verifying designs against code requirements and site-specific project conditions.
  • Perform calculations and simulations to ensure the reliability, efficiency, and safety of electrical designs.
  • Evaluate and analyze electrical systems to identify areas for improvement or optimization.
  • Support interconnection requirements, including utility and transmission provider technical requirements, reactive power capability, and IEEE 2800 compliance.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including CAD technicians, project managers, construction managers, owner's engineers, and utilities to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems.
  • Work directly with manufacturers to clarify equipment design considerations, and coordinate with suppliers and vendors through the procurement manager on equipment selection.
  • Coordinate design development with other engineering disciplines to ensure compatibility of designs.
  • Respond to RFIs and resolve owner, utility, and third-party review comments.
  • Represent engineering as Engineer of Record on client, utility, and vendor calls alongside the Project Engineer.
  • Review factory and field test procedures and reports for electrical equipment.
  • Support construction and commissioning by resolving field issues and anomalies identified during testing.
  • Organize project engineering documentation including design drawings, details, testing plans, and general submittals.
  • Ensure all designs and processes comply with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Develop or support development of Bill of Materials (BOM) for project.
  • Contribute to company design standards, templates, processes, and calculation tools.
  • Stay current on new technologies and best practices in PV and BESS electrical design.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of electrical design processes.

Benefits

  • This is a full-time position.
  • You may be required to infrequently work weekends or after normal business hours to support project needs.
  • Flex-schedules are negotiable.
  • Travel of up to 10–15% is expected for site visits, commissioning support, and client or utility meetings.
