Role Description

We are sharing a full-time opportunity for experienced Mechanical Engineers with strong expertise in mechanical design, engineering analysis, manufacturing, thermal and fluid systems, structural evaluation, and technical problem-solving to support advanced AI research and model-evaluation initiatives.

Selected professionals will apply real-world engineering judgement to:

• Review mechanical-engineering tasks and AI-generated outputs
• Develop instruction specifications and reference solutions
• Create challenging evaluations grounded in authentic industry practice

Key Responsibilities

• Mechanical Engineering Review & Quality Assurance
  • Review mechanical-engineering tasks and AI-generated outputs for technical accuracy
  • Identify incorrect assumptions, missing constraints, unit errors, and tolerance issues
  • Flag unsafe or impractical design choices
  • Assess whether proposed solutions would withstand professional design review
  • Provide precise written feedback explaining technical weaknesses and corrections
• Instruction Specifications & Reference Solutions
  • Write clear instruction specifications for mechanical-engineering tasks
  • Develop worked reference solutions demonstrating correct engineering approaches
  • Define assumptions, constraints, calculations, and expected outputs
  • Create realistic problems reflecting professional engineering workflows
  • Translate practical engineering judgement into explicit evaluation criteria
• Mechanical Design & Engineering Analysis
  • Develop and evaluate tasks involving mechanical design and product development
  • Apply expertise across thermal, fluid, structural, stress, and manufacturing scenarios
  • Review FEA, CFD, drawings, specifications, and engineering calculations where relevant
  • Assess design choices against real-world performance and production requirements
  • Apply appropriate engineering standards and design-review practices
• Benchmarks & Technical Evaluation
  • Design challenging benchmarks that test advanced mechanical-engineering reasoning
  • Develop evaluation sets spanning design, manufacturing, controls, and system analysis
  • Identify edge cases that distinguish robust reasoning from plausible but incorrect answers
  • Support development of domain-specific engineering evaluation tools
  • Help measure model performance against professional engineering standards
• Research Collaboration & Calibration
  • Collaborate with researchers and specialists across adjacent engineering disciplines
  • Participate in calibration activities to maintain consistent evaluation standards
  • Explain technical decisions, trade-offs, and failure modes clearly
  • Convert tacit engineering experience into repeatable assessment criteria
  • Support continuous refinement of engineering tasks, benchmarks, and reference materials

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline
• 5+ years of hands-on professional mechanical-engineering experience
• Experience in areas such as product development, thermal and fluid systems, HVAC, structural or stress analysis, manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, energy, robotics, or medical devices
• Demonstrated ownership of real engineering designs, analyses, components, or systems
• Experience with FEA, CFD, engineering drawings, specifications, testing, or production workflows
• Working proficiency with tools such as SolidWorks, CATIA, NX, Creo, AutoCAD, ANSYS, Abaqus, or MATLAB
• Familiarity with relevant standards such as ASME, ASTM, ISO, and GD&T per ASME Y14.5
• Clear progression toward senior or lead engineering responsibility
• Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is advantageous but not required
• Hands-on professional use of large language models and ability to distinguish strong reasoning from plausible technical errors
• Excellent written communication and structured technical-feedback skills
• Strong practical engineering judgement grounded in industry experience

Engagement Details

• Full-time engagement
• Remote — United States only
• Compensation: $60–$90/hour
• Expected commitment is 40 hours per week
• Initial engagement is approximately 2–3 months, with a strong possibility of extension based on performance and project needs
• Work will involve mechanical-engineering review, reference-solution development, benchmark design, technical evaluation, and research collaboration
• Assignments may span mechanical design, thermal and fluid systems, structural analysis, manufacturing, controls, and related engineering domains
• Client-issued accounts and equipment may be provided for project work
• Strong real-world engineering ownership and practical design-review experience are central to this role
• Project scope, engineering domains, evaluation criteria, and technical priorities may evolve depending on research requirements
