[Hiring] Manager, Pipeline Engineering @Nscale

Role Description

We are hiring a Manager, Pipeline Engineering to own the engineering of the natural gas transmission pipelines that fuel Nscale's generation campuses, from upstream interconnect to plant fence.

• Nscale's Power and Energy group develops behind-the-meter generation colocated with our data center campuses.
• Large reciprocating engine fleets served by dedicated, large-diameter gas transmission pipelines moving hundreds of millions of cubic feet per day.
• This role owns the pipeline systems, which are closer to process engineering than conventional pipeline design.
• Establish the design basis for pipelines and demonstrate how it ties to downstream commitments.
• Drive engineering through hydraulic design, controls philosophy, and construction.
• Technically manage third-party engineering firms and pipeline construction contractors.
• Work within the Power and Energy technology organization alongside generation engineering and commissioning teams.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of natural gas pipeline engineering experience across design, construction, and operations.
• Deep hydraulic engineering capability, including transient modeling of gas transmission systems.
• Strong process engineering instincts and comfort with inventory-based system behavior.
• Working fluency with 49 CFR Part 192 and ASME B31.8.
• Hands-on experience with measurement and regulation stations and interconnects with major interstate pipelines.
• Experience taking pipeline scopes through construction, hydrotest, and first gas on major projects.
• Proven ability to direct engineering consultants and construction contractors.
• Demonstrated ability to run a scope with minimal oversight.
• Proven ability to build standards, processes, and small teams in a fast-scaling environment.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Civil Engineering or a related field; PE license preferred.
• Willing and able to travel to project sites, vendor facilities, and construction spreads regularly.

Requirements

• Own the design basis for Nscale's gas transmission pipelines.
• Perform and direct steady-state and transient hydraulic modeling of the pipeline systems.
• Evaluate gas storage and supply resilience options.
• Own the overpressure protection philosophy across the pipeline systems.
• Define the control philosophy at interconnects, letdown stations, and plant interfaces.
• Apply process safety discipline to the pipeline scope.
• Own compliance of the pipeline designs with 49 CFR Part 192 and applicable ASME B31 codes.
• Establish material, welding, and construction specifications.
• Support commissioning and first gas.
• Technically manage the engineering consultants supporting the pipeline scope.
• Direct pipeline construction contractors on technical matters.
• Own the technical interface with upstream pipeline operators and interconnect counterparties.
• Develop Nscale's engineering standards, specifications, and reference designs for gas pipelines.
• Coordinate with generation engineering on fuel gas requirements.
• Grow the internal pipeline engineering capability over time.
• Communicate complex pipeline and process issues clearly to project leadership and executives.
