Role Description

As a Lead Program Engineer within the Major Projects Group, you'll serve as a recognized technical leader, driving design quality, consistency, and innovation across concurrent projects spanning the wind, solar, battery energy storage (BESS), and gas business unit segments. The Lead Program Engineer supports cross-department standards and initiatives, prioritizing collective success and team development.

• Leads the project engineering lifecycle from project award through design delivery, construction support, and closeout.
• Serves as the lead engineering point of contact to Owners and Engineer of Record (EOR) teams.
• Ensures designs satisfy facility design requirements through compliance with codes, contracts, and best practices.
• Owns Basis of Design (BOD) development and RFI management for assigned projects.
• Performs drawing and design reviews to ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Validates equipment and material quantity takeoffs for accuracy and completeness.
• Coordinates with other engineers and discipline leads to establish design schedules and resource plans.
• Performs contract and subcontract reviews and provides technical recommendations.
• Leads coordination with Integrated Supply Chain (ISC), Estimating, and Construction teams.
• Supports project man-camp siting and development.
• Partners with construction management teams to facilitate design understanding.
• Collaborates across departments, vendors, and outside engineering firms to explore innovative ideas.
• Champions change management discipline and ensures documentation of scope changes.
• Leads formal lessons learned sessions and ensures findings are documented and distributed.
• Mentors, trains, and onboards Senior Engineers and Engineer I/II staff.
• Supports managers with hiring and promotion decisions.
• Drives consistency in designs across multiple projects.
• Identifies and leads department initiatives to enhance processes and collaboration.
• Performs in-depth constructability assessments on complex projects.
• Communicates deliberately across all phases of work.
• Adheres to the company's cultural basics and the National Society of Professional Engineers' code of conduct.
• Assists with special projects and performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited college required, or relevant equivalent industry experience.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license or Master's degree in engineering is preferred.
• Seven or more years of progressive engineering and/or engineering supervisory experience in a related energy or construction industry.
• Demonstrated experience leading and developing engineers and driving technical standards.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
• Knowledge of engineering science and technology in applying principles to the design of generation facilities.
• Ability to prioritize multiple concurrent projects with a drive for attaining results.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
• Working knowledge, experience, or interest in AI (Artificial Intelligence).
• Excellent organizational, scheduling, planning, and prioritization skills.
• Accounting skills — familiarity with math, record-keeping, and cost tracking.
• Ability to work with and handle sensitive and confidential information.
• May be required to become a qualified individual in pursuit of company contract licensing.
• Estimated to require travel up to 50% of time, subject to fluctuations based on project and business needs.
