Role Description

Orbital Engineering, Inc. is currently seeking a Joint Use Design Supervisor for a REMOTE WORK position. This position requires experience with both Joint Use and Electrical Distribution Design.

• Directly support projects within the Department’s pole attachment application process and power delivery improvement process.
• Analyze requests for attachment to client’s poles and network reliability improvements on client’s electric distribution systems.
• Support GIS data analytics, creation of notifications, work orders, invoicing, and financial reports utilizing enterprise resource planning software.

Essential Functions:

• Plan, direct, and coordinate activities of team personnel to deliver projects on time and on budget.
• Provide technical leadership to team for engineering design and construction functions within assigned projects.
• Utilize understanding of National Electric Safety Code (NESC) Standards and other applicable guidelines to manage team through engineering designs.
• Manage team productivity and ensure projects are closed out and invoiced accordingly.
• Support leadership team with client onboarding, contract negotiations, and relationship development.
• Schedule work according to contractual agreements and assign team personnel appropriately.
• Develop customer proposals, including detailed technical scope, schedule, budget, and resource management.
• Interface directly with clients or contractors to ensure project execution aligns with scope.
• Communicate potential strategic initiatives or team risks to internal management.
• Work with internal stakeholders to ensure team has necessary resources.
• Provide personnel orientation/training, mentorship, coaching, and disciplinary action.
• Complete quality assurance practices on team deliverables.
• Conduct performance evaluations for department team members.

Work Environment:

• Primarily office-based but fieldwork may be needed throughout the engineering design, construction, and quality assurance process.
• Travel is irregular and uncommon; must be willing to travel overnight or for extended periods based on project assignment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical discipline with 3+ years of experience in the utility industry, engineering design, and/or project management.
• Supervisory experience of 0-2 years.
• Thorough knowledge of electrical distribution assets and/or communication equipment construction.
• Experience in managing multiple projects with competing priorities while maintaining schedule and budget.
• Ability to negotiate and develop relationships with clients or contracting parties.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and implement process improvements.
• Exceptional analytical and decision-making skills.
• Detail-oriented with strong organization skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities while maintaining an effective team.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software applications.
• Experience with analyzing data and preparing departmental financial reporting.
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings/schematics.
• Must have dependable transportation and a valid driver’s license with insurance.

Requirements

• Master’s Degree in Engineering or Business Administration (preferred).
• Professional Engineering (PE) License and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) (preferred).
• Knowledge or experience in utility Long Term Infrastructure Improvement Programs (LTIIP) (preferred).
• Experience within the Joint-Use industry with understanding of the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) Guidelines (preferred).
• Demonstrated knowledge in financial analysis and departmental budget management (preferred).
• Experience in pole loading (Spida Calc, O-Calc, Pole Foreman, or Katapult) or other construction modeling software (AutoCAD) (preferred).
• Knowledge of industry utility or joint-use software (Katapult, SPANS, NJUNS, IkeGPS) (preferred).
• Ability to pass a post-offer drug (including marijuana) and alcohol test in compliance with Federal regulations.
