Role Description

Forensic Structural Engineer - Remote - Houston, TX

As our Forensics Structural Engineer, you will:

• Manage structural forensic engineering assignments.
• Perform forensic engineering assessments.
• Provide verbal/written reports for insurance carriers, attorneys, homeowners, property managers, etc.
• Serve as an expert for multiple litigation cases.
• Travel within 150 miles of your office location and occasionally to other NV5 office locations/staff or geographic regions.

Other Responsibilities include:

• Communication with clients before and after site visits and post report production to review/clarify scopes and explain observations and findings.
• Perform on-site interviews with a variety of individuals to collect histories, data, concerns, etc.
• Photograph site conditions to explain conditions and determine the cause of loss.
• Review codes, standards, research, and apply critical formulation of facts to develop conclusions that assist clients in resolving concerns and are defensible.
• Maintain good project data management/storage practices.
• Supervise, when appropriate, junior engineers (EIs) in field work, report development, and research.
• Develop reports that outline site observations, applicable codes, standards, findings, and conclusions.
• Testify in legal proceedings, when required, in correlation to work product.

Qualifications

• B.S. Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architecture Engineering.
• M.S. Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is preferred.
• Residential and/or Commercial inspection & assessment experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of building codes and standards and construction practices is required.
• Litigation experience is a plus.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license in Florida, or ability to obtain one within 6 months of start date.
