[Hiring] Field Engineer I - Structured Cable @IES Communications

Role Description

The Field Engineer I - Structured Cabling will be able to install and operate most types of low-voltage/structured cabling systems and equipment.

• Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems in a senior service support role.
• Test and troubleshoot system components and functions.
• Field verification of connections, labels, installation, and work quality.
• Understand advanced system drawings, specifications, and technical manuals.
• Create shop drawings and submittals for new project kick-off.
• Manage technical work in the field with little supervision.
• Work both “in house” and in the field when required.
• Assume ownership of project installation and support field staff and project manager.
• Assist with maintaining and completing project punch-list for project close outs.
• Oversee the technical aspects of projects.
• Quality-check projects, test all equipment and functionality, and create punch lists.
• Assist sales staff with product and system demonstrations.
• Conduct detailed field walks for prospective or change order opportunities.
• Provide comprehensive written scope narratives, system outlines, and constructability notes.
• Identify and document existing conditions, infrastructure constraints, and access limitations.
• Interface with subcontractors during pre-construction activities.
• Serve as a technical liaison between the field and Pre-Construction/Estimating.
• Assist the Quality and Training department when workload allows.
• Support the development of best practices and job readiness materials.
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

• High skill level to interpret blueprints and other project documents.
• Ability to travel within branch territory and/or regional territory as needed.

Requirements

• At least a High School diploma or GED equivalency; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 3-4 years of commercial low voltage/structured cabling experience.
• Ability to work well with others.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and MS Project).
• Must meet Company minimum driving standards.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
• Demonstrated ability to define a project, create a project scope of work, and manage to completion.
