Role Description

HGA is seeking a Facilities Designer to support the Integrated Services Business Unit. The Facilities Designer supports the design and layout of process facilities, plant infrastructure, and supporting systems across pipe rack/pipeway, equipment arrangement, and utility piping scopes. Working remotely with minimal supervision from a Lead Designer or Engineer, this role interprets engineering design input, develops constructible 3D models and drawings, and coordinates across disciplines to ensure designs are accurate, code-compliant, and field-ready. This position requires proven design experience in industrial or petrochemical environments, strong 3D modeling proficiency, and the judgment to work independently in a remote setting while maintaining close coordination with project teams.

• Interprets and analyzes engineering design input, P&IDs, and vendor data to develop facility and piping layouts.
• Develops and maintains 3D models, plot plans, and pipe rack/pipeway layouts for new and revamp facility designs.
• Checks and reviews the work of designers and drafters, providing feedback and mentoring to less experienced team members.
• Coordinates design activities and schedules with other disciplines (civil, structural, electrical, instrumentation).
• Prepares detailed design deliverables for engineer review and approval.
• Assumes responsibility for the technical accuracy and constructability of finished designs.
• Performs interference and clash detection/resolution across disciplines within the 3D model.
• Develops and maintains line lists, valve lists, and specialty item lists in support of design packages.
• Coordinates with stress engineers on critical line routing, expansion loop design, and pipe support/anchor placement.
• Supports tie-in design for brownfield and turnaround work, including isolation planning for live/operating units.
• Generates material take-offs (MTOs) to support project cost estimates.
• Facilitates or participates in remote model reviews and interdepartmental design coordination meetings.
• Communicates project schedules, design status, and variances to the project team and leadership.
• Supports construction through RFI response, redline incorporation, and field walkdown coordination as needed.

Qualifications

• Technical training in drafting/design from an accredited program (Associate's degree preferred) or equivalent industry experience.
• Minimum 5 years of facilities/piping design experience in industrial, petrochemical, oil & gas, or related heavy-industrial settings.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and 3D modeling software (CADWorx, AutoPLANT, or S3D preferred).
• Working knowledge of engineering design principles, plant layout, and constructability practice.
• Experience with 3D model review and clash detection tools (Navisworks or equivalent).
• Familiarity with laser scan software (e.g., ReCap, LFM) a plus.
• Knowledge of P&ID interpretation, redlines, and ISO sketching.
• Understanding of pipe stress fundamentals and pipe support/anchor design principles.
• Bluebeam Revu or equivalent markup/review software experience preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining strong cross-discipline communication.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage time, priorities, and resources across multiple concurrent design packages.
• Experience with a consulting engineering firm or EPC environment preferred.
