[Hiring] Engineering Manager @1Password

Role Description

We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the Device Trust Platform team , responsible for the lower-level platforms that power 1Password Device Trust and underpin Device Security and the broader 1Password security platform. These systems ingest, process, and store a high volume of telemetry from the devices our customers depend on.

• Ensure Tier 0 reliability: services are always on, and when something fails, it fails over without anyone noticing.
• Lead a group of senior and staff engineers who are deep in this architecture.
• Grow the team over time, adding engineers as the platform's scope expands.
• Responsible for the resiliency and reliability of our applications, including:
  • Owning availability targets
  • Incident response
  • Capacity planning
  • Architectural decisions for a multi-region system
• Run a healthy engineering team: planning, design reviews, career growth, and hiring.

Qualifications

• 3+ years managing and mentoring software engineering teams, including senior and staff engineers.
• Strong background in infrastructure behind highly reliable, high-volume data systems.
• Hands-on experience operating multi-region systems with failover and redundancy.
• Experience owning production observability: instrumentation, dashboards, alerting.
• Significant hands-on development experience and strong technical judgment.
• Demonstrated success leading a hybrid team that spans infrastructure and application engineering.
• Excellent communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Experience with Ruby on Rails applications at scale, or with Go services.
• Experience with osquery, endpoint telemetry, or other device-data pipelines.
• Experience running Kubernetes-based platforms on AWS or another major cloud.
• Experience managing remote and distributed teams.
• Experience building systems that balance rapid iteration with enterprise-grade security.
• Deep experience with Datadog, including APM, log management, custom metrics, and SLO-based monitoring.
