Role Description

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Engineer II, Field Service to join our world-class team. Position Summary:

  • Assemble, install, repair, test, calibrate, and maintain electro-mechanical instrumentation and systems supported by TDX.
  • Inspect and/or test electronic and mechanical parts and components to drawing tolerances and written specifications.
  • Ensure continued external customer satisfaction with products by providing high quality and timely service and repair of electromechanical systems and products.

Location: This is a remote role based in the Texas or Virginia area and to live within a reasonable proximity (typically within one hour) of a major airport to accommodate estimated 75% travel requirements. Relocation assistance is not provided.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, which includes a drug screening.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred and/or 3+ years of field equipment service experience.
  • Familiarity and prior experience with Tecan automation hardware/software preferred.
  • Hands-on experience maintaining, calibrating, repairing electromechanical medical devices.
  • Ability to read and use schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Can interface comfortably with customers who may be in a stressful situation with a malfunctioning piece of equipment.
  • Ability to follow verbal directions and perform procedures as assigned.
  • Experience in reading, understanding, and implementing written and/or verbal assembly, test, and inspection procedures.
  • Knowledge of bench top electromechanical assembly, problem solving, repair, and testing techniques.
  • Ability to solder.
  • Must communicate clearly both written and verbal.
  • Comfortable operating Windows 7 & 10 and have knowledge that includes, but is not limited to, Microsoft Office Professional.
  • Familiarity with HLA Laboratories, testing procedures.

  • Plan and prioritize oneself in a reliable and consistent manner.
  • Willing and able to reschedule planned services to prioritize ad hoc service calls.
  • Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing with management, team members, and third parties (customers and vendors).
  • Maintain high professional corporate image at all times with third parties.
  • Maintain confidentiality of critical laboratory and business information; perform computer data entry in a meticulous manner.
  • Be a self-starter with the ability to positively motivate others.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff members and end-users.
  • Ability to travel at minimum, two or more times per month.

  • The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in Virginia is $28.85–$43.27.
