Role Description

Echo Power is seeking a self-motivated Electrical Relay Testing Technician with experience in relay testing, commissioning, and maintenance. In this role, you will support substation and power generation projects, contributing across the full project lifecycle—from design support through field commissioning and in-service operations. This position includes a mix of technical work and field engagement to ensure safe and reliable system performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform testing, commissioning, and maintenance of protective relays and associated equipment
• Develop and implement protective relay settings and commissioning documentation
• Conduct functional testing, troubleshooting, and repair of relay systems
• Support retrofit design and implementation of relay systems in substations and power plants
• Assist in the development and execution of commissioning work plans
• Maintain accurate documentation of testing and maintenance activities
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of power generation and transmission equipment, including relays, controls, transformers, and protection systems
• Experience with instrumentation, process control systems, and transmitters (pressure, flow, temperature)
• Familiarity with HART-based transmitters and PLC fundamentals (preferred)
• Experience with 480V motor controls and substation equipment installation/commissioning
• Ability to produce as-built documentation using AutoCAD
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and working knowledge of AutoCAD
• Experience with relay testing platforms and associated software
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with customers and field teams
• Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and ability to work in both field and office environments

Requirements

• High school diploma required
• 5+ years of relevant experience in electrical testing, installation, and commissioning
• NICET certification preferred
