[Hiring] Aircraft Battery Systems / S&T Engineer @Peraton

Role Description

Peraton is seeking a Senior-level Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineer with Battery Systems and S&T focus/experience to provide remote support for our NAVAIR customer in Lexington Park/Patuxent River, MD. In this position, you will have the opportunity to be part of the Navy’s Power & Energy Division, developing critical capabilities to support the fleet.

The primary duties include serving as a team member in support of battery system development, evaluation, and certification. You should have a good working knowledge of modern battery system technology to include:

• Battery systems components
• Characteristics
• Performance

You should also have knowledge, skill, and experience in the development and evaluation of:

• Performance requirements
• Design criteria
• Processes
• Analysis methods related to aircraft battery systems and their components

Additionally, you should be knowledgeable of potential battery system technology advancement areas and have the ability to work with industry and academia partners in the development and maturation of these technologies.

Responsibilities include:

• Assisting the battery team lead and/or SME in the critical review of technical reports and products, including:
• MIL specs and associated slash sheets
• Contractor/vendor progress reports
• Qualification test plans/Qualification test reports
• Lithium battery safety certification recommendation letters
• Assisting and/or leading in the development of Battery Test & Evaluation Lab (BTEL) revitalization proposals and lab equipment integration
• Supporting the Electric Mission Support Equipment Infrastructure and Management Study, evaluating the potential for replacing current diesel-powered Support Equipment (SE) with battery-powered replacements
• Supporting the Common Affordable Safe Energy Storage (CASES) Program, including Tri-service battery commonality efforts and associated activities
• Reviewing and adjudicating lithium battery safety certification requests and providing recommendations to Navy customers
• Leading Small Business innovation research (SBIR), Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR), and Naval Innovation Science & Engineering (NISE) project efforts related to developmental battery systems

Qualifications

• Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 3 years with PhD
• Minimum requirements are a BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or similar degree, and experience working with battery systems
• At least 3 years’ experience in aircraft battery systems to include both developmental and fielded battery systems
• Secret security clearance or the ability to obtain
• U.S. citizenship is required

• Presentation skills capable of defending a technical position and/or recommendation
• Good communication skills, and knowledge and experience in procedures for writing technical procedures for a non-technical audience

Benefits

• Salary Range: $112,000 - $179,000, determined by various factors including scope and responsibilities, individual experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations
• Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay
