Role Description

We are seeking a Teaching Assistant (TA) who will support the success of the class and students by providing students with additional academic support in a professional manner. The TA assists students in understanding content by using various teaching/tutoring strategies. A TA must be available to provide extra assistance to individual students as needed.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist in grading homework, quizzes, and exams in the online section of course.
• Monitor online discussion boards, conduct online course communication with students, and assist during synchronous discussions.
• Prepare the course site prior to the start of the course, which may include:
  • Assignment descriptions and deadlines
  • Grade book calculations
  • Group and class discussion forums
  • Student resources
  • Practice exams
  • Mid-term course evaluations
• Require the student to outline a teaching module for future online teaching assistants, including documents for preparing new teaching assistants, troubleshooting tips, and information on fostering a productive working relationship with a professor.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or graduation equivalent.
• Additional education may substitute for required experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree. Completed Master’s Degree in related field strongly preferred.
• Prior teaching experience in the relevant course content area preferred.

• Starting Salary Range: $20.00 - $36.25 HRLY ($20.00 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
