Role Description
The Special Education Paraprofessional supports students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in a virtual learning environment through instructional assistance, data collection, and mentorship. This role partners closely with Special Education Mentors to deliver personalized, high-quality learning experiences that promote student growth, independence, and confidence.
Essential Duties

Student Academic Support & Tutoring

Facilitate one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions aligned with student needs

Lead general education support sessions to reinforce core subject understanding

Help students stay on track with coursework and academic goals

Support diverse learners, including those needing additional academic intervention

Mentor/Classroom Support
-
Assist mentors during live sessions and asynchronous learning activities

Help manage student engagement and participation in virtual settings
-
Provide feedback to mentors on student progress, gaps, and wins

Learning Environment Management

Help maintain a structured, positive, and productive virtual classroom environment

Monitor student attendance, participation, and assignment completion

Reinforce behavioral and academic expectations aligned with WLβs mentor model

Administrative & Communication Support

Track student progress and maintain accurate documentation

Communicate with mentors and internal team members regarding student needs

Support scheduling and coordination of tutoring and support sessions

Student Relationship Development

Build supportive relationships that increase student engagement and ownership

Provide encouragement and accountability aligned with leadership development goals

Contribute to a strong sense of connection in a virtual environment
Minimum Qualifications
-
High school diploma or equivalent required
-
At least 1 year of experience working with middle or high school students in an academic, tutoring, or support capacity

Ability to facilitate tutoring sessions and general education support sessions with guidance from mentors

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students
-
Ability to stay organized and manage multiple students and responsibilities simultaneously
-
Comfort using technology and virtual learning platforms (e.g., video conferencing, Google Workspace)

Ability to follow instructional guidance and reinforce learning without serving as the primary instructor

Reliable internet access and ability to work in a fully remote environment
Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience facilitating tutoring sessions or academic intervention programs

Experience supporting students in an online or blended learning environment

Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) such as Canvas, Google Classroom, or similar platforms
-
Experience working with diverse learners, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, or within an MTSS framework

Background in classical education, Socratic method, or discussion-based learning environments

Strong ability to build rapport and accountability with students in a virtual setting
Work Conditions

Full-time remote position

Must be available during regular business hours and peak enrollment cycles

Occasional off-hour virtual meetings may be required
