Role Description

The Sessional Lecturer provides instruction to undergraduate students in the Faculty of Business and IT. The primary responsibility is to develop and teach a theoretically, methodologically sophisticated and relevant course at the university level. The Sessional Lecturer will:

• Deliver the course using a technology-enhanced learning approach.
• Utilize a variety of inclusive teaching and learning strategies and assessments.
• Prepare, deliver, and grade all course material and assignments.
• Be available for consultation with students during and following completion of the course session.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and is subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated excellent teaching contributions with a proven aptitude for teaching at the undergraduate level.
• Proven commitment to providing innovative and inclusive teaching strategies.
• Evidence of an ability to work in a collaborative environment.
• Excellent communication skills with an ability to maintain effective relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduate students in a Bachelor of Commerce program.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the Learning Management System, Canvas.
• Demonstrated ability to deliver classes remotely using online modalities such as Kaltura Media and Google Meets.
• Proven experience managing large classes and diverse populations.
• Experience coordinating and supervising Teaching Assistants as applicable.
• Excellent organizational skills to manage course delivery and respond to student inquiries in a timely manner.
• Excel-related skills including mastery of complex formulas and functions, proficiency with PivotTables, PivotCharts, dashboards, and experience with Power Query and Power Pivot.
• Data validation and protection techniques, data visualization using charts and conditional formatting, handling large datasets, and cleaning data efficiently.
• Writing, editing, and debugging VBA code, creating macros to automate Excel tasks, and building user forms and event-driven procedures.

Requirements

• MSc/PhD in Business Analytics or in a related field.
• Experience in Business Analytics with a strong emphasis on proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Preference for candidates with demonstrated teaching excellence in a business or commerce degree in a post-secondary environment.
• Priority given to Internal Applicants who have taught any course for the University in three different sessions in the past thirty-six months, provided they meet the requirements for the position.
