[Hiring] Saturday Academy Associate Instructor, ELA (9th - 11th Grade) @SEO (Sponsors for Educational Opportunity)

Role Description

Associate Instructors will join SEO’s community of passionate educators to implement a rigorous college prep curriculum for motivated and driven high school students. Using our original curriculum and a student-centered approach to teaching and learning, Associate Instructors play an integral part in supporting our Scholars’ journeys to a competitive college and beyond. Associate Instructors promote depth of understanding and skill acquisition by serving as a coach and facilitator of learning. Associate Instructors co-teach alongside Instructors to facilitate classroom instruction, teach mini lessons, organize small group and one-on-one instruction, and provide additional Scholar support. Associate Instructors do not have grading responsibilities.

• Courses offered this semester:
• 9th Grade: Finding Your Voice: Public Issues and Perspectives
• 10th Grade: Critical Media Analysis
• 11th Grade: Supplemental Essay Writing
• Key Dates:
• Self-guided Asynchronous Instructor Training: 10 hours of work to be completed prior to programming.
• Instructor Orientation: The week of Feb 8th via Zoom (5:30 - 8pm)
• Synchronous Online Instruction: 2/20, 2/27, 3/6, 3/20, 4/3, 4/10, 4/17, 5/1, 5/8, & 5/15

• Key Responsibilities:
• Instruction & Facilitation: Co-teach three to four periods including ELA; lead classes when necessary.
• Navigate Instructional Technologies: Utilize Brightspace, Nearpod, GSuite applications, and Zoom chat.
• Content Preparation: Read and internalize lesson plans; adjust pacing and activities based on student needs.
• Tutoring and Academic Support: Host open-door lunch tutoring sessions for Scholars.
• Classroom Culture: Promote an energetic and engaging learning environment.
• Collaboration with SEO Staff and Instructors: Attend meetings and respond to communications promptly.
• Responsiveness to Coaching and Feedback: Meet with assigned instructional coach at least twice during the semester.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a content-related field.
• Teaching certification, K-12 classroom teaching experience, and/or experience teaching at the college or university level.
• Use of a reliable personal laptop that meets basic technology requirements.
• Experience working with high school-aged students.
• Comfortable with navigating technological learning systems.
• Expertise in advanced high school-level English and Humanities subjects.
• Eagerness to engage in conversations analyzing societal issues.

• Preferred:
• Understanding and practice of student-centered pedagogy.
• Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
• Certifications or courses in Instructional Technologies.

Requirements

• Successful completion of a Level 2 background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse, including fingerprinting.

Benefits

• Compensation: $32/hour.
• This position is benefits ineligible in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
