Role Description

The field of paramedicine has come a long way from the Napoleonic wars where soldiers were transported by cart from the frontlines of battle to field hospitals. This survey course will trace the pivotal historical, social, and political factors that have contributed to the development of paramedicine and the paramedic profession as we know it today.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in either Leadership, Public Administration, or Paramedicine.
• Required Discipline: Business or Science
• Required Areas of Specialization: Paramedicine
• Required Professional Designation:
  • Primary Care Paramedic (PCP)
  • Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP)
  • Critical Care Paramedic (CCP)
• Demonstrated experience as an adult educator or guest lecturer to adult learners.
• Subject matter expertise in the area of the history of paramedicine.
• A minimum of five (5) years of senior leadership experience in a municipal, provincial or territorial ambulance / paramedic / emergency medical service, with roles including:
  • System-wide budgetary responsibility
  • System planning
  • Transition management
  • Political acuity
• Extensive experience across various roles and types of EMS providers both nationally and internationally.
• Understanding of service delivery models and performance metrics across Canadian paramedic services.
• Must be a paramedic (either working or retired).
