[Hiring] Online Lecturer in Public Policy Analysis @University of Virginia

Role Description

The University of Virginia's School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) seeks applicants to fill a tenure-ineligible part-time Lecturer position for the Public Administration Graduate Certificate Program. The opening exists for the Spring 2027 term.

• Course: PSPA 5010 Public Policy Analysis
• Preference for candidates who can also teach PSPA 5000: Introduction to Public Administration
• Spring 2027 semester scheduled from late January through early May 2027
• Consideration for applicants for other courses in the SCPS Public Administration Certificate and larger certificate portfolio
• SCPS employs faculty with applicable content expertise and recent professional experience
• Position for the Spring 2027 semester; future offerings may be in fall, spring, and/or summer
• Courses typically 10 weeks in length, offered online, primarily asynchronous
• Class size averages range from approximately 12-24 students
• Continuing education program serving working adult learners
• Instructors can adapt the existing syllabus based on preference and expertise
• Current practice: asynchronous delivery with optional live sessions every other week

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Public Affairs, or a closely related field required; terminal degree strongly preferred
• At least 5 years of public sector experience required
• Previous online teaching or training experience required
• Familiarity with technology in teaching and experience working with adult learners
• Strong written and oral communication skills highly desirable
