[Hiring] Online Lecturer in Public Policy Analysis @UVA Health

Role Description

The University of Virginia's School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) seeks applicants to fill a tenure-ineligible part-time Lecturer position for the Public Administration Graduate Certificate Program. The opening exists for the Spring 2027 term.

• Instructor with notable experience practicing and teaching public policy analysis.
• Course: PSPA 5010 Public Policy Analysis.
• Preference for candidates prepared to teach PSPA 5000: Introduction to Public Administration.
• Spring 2027 semester offering scheduled from late January through early May 2027.
• Consideration for applicants for other courses in the SCPS Public Administration Certificate and larger certificate portfolio.
• Academic faculty must have applicable content expertise and recent/current professional experience.
• Professional and educational experience consistent with current Public Administration Faculty.
• Future offerings may be in fall, spring, and/or summer semesters.
• Courses typically 10 weeks in length, offered in an online, primarily asynchronous format.
• Class size averages range from approximately 12-24 students.
• Continuing education program serving working adult learners.
• Syllabus exists; instructors can adapt based on preference and expertise, maintaining current learning outcomes.
• Course delivered asynchronously with optional live sessions approximately every other week; instructors expected to host these live meetings.

Qualifications

• Graduate-level instruction required.
• Master’s degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Public Affairs, or a closely related field required; terminal degree strongly preferred.
• At least 5 years of public sector experience required.
• Previous online teaching or training experience required, including familiarity with technology in teaching and experience with adult learners.
• Strong written and oral communication skills highly desirable.
