Role Description

We are seeking an experienced software development professional to support postgraduate students studying software engineering, object-oriented design, and modern web application development. This role is ideal for a hands-on developer, software engineer, technical lead, or solutions architect with current industry experience and strong coding capabilities in object-oriented programming and Python.

As an Online Learning Adviser (OLA), you’ll ensure students experience high-quality, positive learning by:

• Facilitating learning activities that engage and retain students
• Marking assessments and providing meaningful, constructive feedback
• Supporting communication through discussion boards, emails, and live sessions – ensuring visibility to students every 24-48 hours
• Collaborating with academic teams to maintain unit quality
• Upholding OES values to foster a positive team culture and student experience

OLAs are not responsible for curriculum design, assessment creation, or scheduling.

Qualifications

• Hold a minimum Masters in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline
• 5+ years industry experience
• Experience with technologies such as Python, Flask, MySQL, Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, and Bootstrap is highly regarded
• Previous teaching, training, mentoring, or online facilitation experience

Requirements

• Experience reviewing other developers' code and giving feedback on it (desirable)
• Experience assessing live code demonstrations or technical interviews (desirable)
• Teaching or studying in an online environment, and prior teaching or mentoring (desirable)
• Empathetic: Understand the challenges faced by online learners
• Organised & proactive: Able to manage time and responsibilities independently
• Tech-confident: Comfortable navigating online learning platforms
• Student-focused: Passionate about helping students succeed
• Flexibility to work sessional part-time: 8 hours per week. Hours may increase depending on assessment/marking cadences and the number of student groups you support
