[Hiring] Long-Term Substitute Teacher Pool - Special Education @San Diego

Role Description

The Long-Term Substitute Teacher Pool - Special Education provides full-time virtual instructional coverage for the Student Services department at California Online Public Schools when teachers are on leave. This posting is intended to establish a pool of qualified long-term substitutes who may be contacted as assignments become available; placement in the pool does not guarantee an assignment.

Working from a home office, this role supports students across all grade bands by:

• Delivering live lessons
• Monitoring progress
• Maintaining communication with families
• Ensuring continuity of instruction

Assignments typically will be a minimum of one (1) month up to five (5) months. During the duration of an assignment, the substitute teacher will be expected to work full-time (40 hours a week).

Substitute teachers work under the guidance of instructional leadership and collaborate closely with school teams to uphold high academic expectations and student success.

Qualifications

• Valid California Clear or Preliminary Special Education: Mild to Moderate Support Needs, or Special Education: Moderate to Severe Support Needs.
• Must have English Learner authorization.
• Must currently reside in California.
• Strong communication skills and comfort with technology and virtual learning platforms.
• Previous experience teaching in a virtual or Independent Study environment.
• Experience working with diverse student populations.
• Proficiency with technology and virtual learning platforms, including Zoom, Google Workspace, Canvas, and School Pathways.
