[Hiring] Homebound After School Virtual Teacher @Fitzgerald Public Schools

Role Description

Homebound Virtual After School Teacher at Chatterton Middle School for the 2026-2027 School Year, 2 non-consecutive hours per week.

• Serve as the educational liaison between the student and his/her classroom teacher.
• Serve as the student's instructor when a student is unable to attend school for an extended period of time.
• Build trust and confidence with students and staff.
• Plan accommodations and special education programs and teaching methods if needed.
• Instruct individuals and groups on special education adaptive or general education skill areas.
• Monitor student progress in and outside the resource room.
• Maintain contact with parents of students and administration.
• Evaluate student progress based on work output and observation, determining goals, objectives, and directions.
• Collaborate with the general education teacher for grades and report cards, educational records, IEPC forms, classroom observation records, Medicaid forms, and other forms.
• Participate in building and district-wide Special Education Committee Meetings.
• Administer testing evaluations.
• Work closely and collaboratively with all teachers to help students maintain satisfactory class work, homework, and behavior.
• Counsel students in identifying and dealing with their academic and social problems.
• Help parents understand the specific problems of students with disabilities and the goals and operation of the program, apprising them of problems and progress.
• Maintain all accommodation logs in compliance with special education laws.
• Maintain a schedule for students and themselves to ensure the special education services per the IEP are provided.
• Program at all times for the least restrictive environment for students.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned by administration.

Qualifications

• Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
• Ability to manage time, self-directed.
• High level of confidentiality and professionalism.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Patience to work with diverse populations and language barriers.
• Experience with data-driven decision making.
• Familiar with the common core standards.
