Role Description

Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) Interpreting and Translation Services is expanding its team of freelance sign language interpreters. The Freelance Interpreter will provide confidential interpreting services between American Sign Language (ASL) and English language users in-person and/or via video in a variety of settings, which include:

• Community
• Medical
• Mental health
• Emergency events

As an active member of Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI), you hold a 3–4-year post-secondary diploma/degree from an accredited program. You have a minimum of 1-year of interpreting experience combined with excellent language fluency in both ASL and ENG, with the ability to match diverse language use of consumers. You also take pride in providing exceptional quality service while always maintaining strict confidentiality and following best practices and protocols.

Qualifications

• Active member of Canadian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (CASLI)
• 3–4-year post-secondary diploma/degree from an accredited program
• Minimum of 1-year of interpreting experience
• Excellent language fluency in both ASL and ENG
• Ability to match diverse language use of consumers
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Extensive understanding of Deaf culture

Requirements

• Legally eligible for employment in Canada (Proof of legal ability to work in Canada will be required if a contingent Freelance Contract is offered)
