[Hiring] Director of Learning Design @Tergar International

Role Description

Tergar Schools is seeking a dedicated individual to build a comprehensive, fully secular model of learning (MOL) that can be integrated into various educational settings. This role involves:

• Building the model and designing the teacher training program at the center of the MOL.
• Creating materials that make the training usable in real schools, including adaptable toolkits and playbooks.
• Running the model as a product, forming hypotheses about teacher and school needs, and testing them in live classrooms.
• Defining what gets built now and what can wait, balancing lean development with high standards.
• Being hands-on with new partner schools in Nepal starting in 2027, working closely with the Executive Director.
• Deciding on team composition and hiring order, with support from the Executive Director and Director of Operations.
• Setting standards over time and translating teachings into usable materials.
• Partnering with a research lab to translate findings into product and training decisions.

Qualifications

• Deep pedagogical expertise with experience in designing programs, curricula, or training for real teachers.
• Fluency in a lean approach to product design, with practical experience in strategic experiments and validated learning.
• Real, lived contemplative experience, with a genuine taste of practice.
• Comfortable being hands-on initially and stepping back as the team develops.
• Able to build lean while aiming for excellence without treating them as trade-offs.

Requirements

• Substantial experience in education as a teacher, school leader, curriculum developer, or learning designer.
• Experience directing, mentoring, or building a team from scratch.
• Ability to work directly from a founder’s evolving vision and co-write the brief as necessary.
• Discernment in decision-making regarding model integrity.
• Genuine curiosity and respect for diverse traditions.
• Comfort with ambiguity and evolving mandates.
