Role Description

The Curriculum Designer & Instructional Technology Specialist is responsible for the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of curriculum and academic technologies that support high-quality teaching and learning at Pierce Mortuary Colleges. This role combines expertise in instructional design, curriculum development, educational technology, and faculty support to ensure academic programs remain relevant, engaging, compliant, accessible, and aligned with institutional goals, accreditation standards, and funeral service industry requirements.

  • Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and subject matter experts to develop and maintain course content across online, hybrid, and on-campus learning environments.
  • Lead the effective use of the Learning Management System (LMS) and other instructional technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Curriculum Design and Development
    • Design, develop, and revise course materials, including syllabi, lesson plans, learning activities, assessments, multimedia content, and instructional resources.
    • Collaborate with faculty and subject matter experts to ensure curriculum reflects current funeral service industry standards, licensure requirements, and best practices.
    • Develop curriculum maps that align course outcomes with program objectives, institutional goals, and accreditation standards.
    • Incorporate experiential learning opportunities, case studies, simulations, labs, and competency-based learning strategies to promote student success and career readiness.
    • Apply instructional design principles, learning theories, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) practices to create engaging and accessible learning experiences.
  • Curriculum Review, Assessment, and Compliance
    • Conduct ongoing evaluation and revision of courses and programs using assessment data, faculty feedback, student outcomes, and program reviews.
    • Ensure curriculum and instructional materials comply with the standards of the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE) and other applicable regulatory and accrediting agencies.
    • Assist with accreditation reporting, program reviews, and institutional compliance documentation.
    • Monitor changes in educational, industry, and accreditation requirements and implement necessary curriculum updates.
  • Instructional Technology Leadership
    • Administer, maintain, and support the Learning Management System (LMS) and related academic technology platforms.
    • Research, evaluate, and recommend emerging educational technologies and digital learning tools that enhance teaching and learning.
    • Support the integration of multimedia, collaboration tools, virtual learning technologies, plagiarism detection tools, and other academic technologies.
    • Develop and maintain high-quality online and hybrid course environments that ensure consistency, accessibility, and student engagement.
  • Faculty Support and Professional Development
    • Provide training, consultation, and ongoing support to faculty in curriculum design, instructional technology, assessment, and course development.
    • Design and facilitate workshops, training sessions, and faculty development programs focused on pedagogy, instructional innovation, and technology integration.
    • Serve as a resource for faculty regarding best practices in teaching, learning, assessment, accessibility, and digital content creation.
    • Offer one-on-one assistance to faculty in resolving instructional technology challenges and implementing effective learning strategies.
  • Accessibility and Innovation
    • Promote digital accessibility and inclusive learning practices in accordance with ADA requirements and Universal Design for Learning principles.
    • Develop resources such as guides, videos, tutorials, and training materials to support faculty and student use of educational technologies.
    • Continuously explore innovative instructional methods and technologies that improve learning outcomes and student engagement.
    • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including vendors and partners, to support institutional initiatives and technology implementation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Curriculum Design, Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, Education, Mortuary Science, or a related field.
  • Two or more years of experience in curriculum development, instructional design, educational technology, teaching, or training, preferably in higher education.
  • Experience administering or supporting a Learning Management System (preferably Canvas).
  • Knowledge of instructional design models, assessment strategies, online and hybrid learning, and educational technology tools.
  • Demonstrated understanding of digital accessibility, ADA compliance, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively while managing multiple priorities and projects.
  • Qualifications and requirements will be commensurate with the candidate’s education and experience.

Requirements

  • Master's degree.
  • Knowledge of ABFSE accreditation standards, funeral service education, or professional/technical education programs.
  • Funeral service licensure or professional industry experience.
