Role Description

The Adjunct Instructor (Generative AI) plays a crucial role in fostering a competency-based learning environment that promotes social justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion. The instructor leverages Generative AI experience to instruct core concepts and skills customized and personalized to student learning.

• Acts as a steward for carrying out Calbright’s mission and strategic vision by demonstrating effective and consistent commitment to equity-centered, competency-based education.
• Provides consistent, timely, quality, substantive, and constructive feedback to students.
• Monitors student progress and proactively offers support at key points of the student journey.
• Provides expertise in Artificial Intelligence and maintains current knowledge in their field.
• Fosters student learning through innovative, effective teaching practices.
• Responds urgently to meet students' needs and communicates professionally and respectfully with students and all other members of the Calbright community.
• Uses technology-based teaching and communication platforms to support students in developing competencies.
• Collaborates with other professionals within the university to promote a positive, student-centric atmosphere.
• Assesses and validates student work based on mastery of industry skills and demonstration of knowledge.
• Encourages student engagement with peers, the instructor, and the learning resources.
• Appropriately documents student engagement, outreach, and interventions.
• Offers weekly office hours, web chats, or learning sessions.
• Communicates with students using University-designated systems and through university-assigned email accounts.
• Adheres to College policies and procedures, including the completion of mandatory training.
• Performs other related duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.

Qualifications

• Experience mentoring, training, or teaching adults.
• Expertise in Artificial Intelligence while maintaining currency in the field.
• Demonstrated ability to customize instructional support for adults with a variety of needs and educational backgrounds.
• Strong understanding, adherence, and promotion of the tenets of Calbright’s competency-based education model.
• Technological competency: Proficiency with Google Suite (or similar) applications, virtual instructional platforms, and collaboration tools.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information concisely and accurately; friendly, persuasive speaking and writing style.
• Extraordinary customer service orientation.
• Well organized - conscientious and thorough with detail.
• Ability to use data to make decisions.
• Demonstrate understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, staff, and faculty.

Requirements

• A Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or Cognitive Science.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations.
• Ability to work a student-friendly schedule (evenings/weekends).
• All candidates not holding the stated minimum degree qualifications, who are seeking consideration on the basis of equivalency, are required to submit a completed Equivalency Determination Request Form and must provide the supporting information and documentation.

Desired Qualifications

• Current Industry-aligned certification(s).
• Online teaching experience.
• Interdisciplinary background.
• Experience applying social and emotional learning strategies with adult learners.

Working Conditions and Travel

• Calbright College is a statewide online college where all instruction and support are done via various online technologies both in person and remotely.
• Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.
• The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in Calbright College policies, procedures, and Title IX.
• Requires the ability to function in a remote online instructional environment performing work of primarily a sedentary nature.
• Requires the ability to use hearing and speech to make presentations to groups and carry on conversations over the phone and in-person.
• Requires speaking skills to communicate with staff and students in one-on-one and small group settings, on the phone, and to distinguish sound prompts from various types of equipment.
• Requires near visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens.
• Requires sufficient hand/arm/finger dexterity to retrieve work materials, operate a personal computer keyboard, and operate standard office equipment.
• Requires the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
• Work is performed indoors where minimal safety considerations exist.
