Role Description
Bethany College is seeking an enthusiastic, student-centered adjunct instructor to teach undergraduate economics courses in an online format. Teaching responsibilities include:

Developing and teaching various levels of undergraduate economics courses within the business discipline.

Potential course assignments may include:

Principles of Microeconomics

Principles of Macroeconomics
-
Money and Banking
-
International Economics
-
Related electives
-
Conducting class sessions as scheduled.

Maintaining current and accurate records of course enrollment, grades, and attendance.

Observing and evaluating student performance through assignments, discussions, projects, and assessments.

Monitoring student progress and participating in the Early Alert System with Student Success as needed.

Maintaining a consistent virtual presence and timely communication with students.

Holding required virtual office hours.

Using the College’s learning management system effectively for course delivery, communication, grading, and student support.

Designing at least one major assignment incorporating the AI Audit reflection framework appropriate to the course level.

Maintaining a commitment to culturally responsive teaching and student success.

Communicating regularly with the department chair.
Qualifications
-
Master’s degree in Economics or a related field required; Ph.D. or terminal degree in Economics or related business curriculum preferred.

ABD, MBA, or Master’s in Economics with significant teaching and/or professional business experience will be considered.

Proven track record of successful online teaching, including demonstrated proficiency in asynchronous course delivery, online student engagement strategies, timely virtual communication, and effective use of learning management systems.

Enthusiastic, student-centered approach to teaching.

Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, including students, faculty, staff, administration, and community stakeholders.

Regular attendance and consistent virtual presence required.

Demonstrated ability to mentor and motivate students.

Functional knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Competence in email and document management.

Willingness to adapt to a changing technology environment.

Familiarity with generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or similar, and willingness to learn the BoodleBox platform used across the division.

Good communication skills, organized, and able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.

Highly motivated and works well both independently and in a team environment.
Requirements
-
Three or more years of documented online teaching experience at the undergraduate level, with evidence of strong student outcomes and course evaluations (preferred).

Prior experience integrating generative AI into economics or quantitative coursework (preferred).

Breadth to teach across multiple economics offerings, including principles, intermediate theory, money and banking, international economics, or applied electives (preferred).

Familiarity with current economic policy debates and emerging topics including fintech, central bank digital currencies, and AI applications in financial services (preferred).

Bilingual in Spanish is a plus; some knowledge of the Spanish language skills is a plus (preferred).
