Role Description

The Network Operations team is looking for a seasoned Network Operations engineer to help actualize the SRE vision for our client's network infrastructure. This role demands a unique blend of hands-on expertise in network operations, engineering, and observability. A proficient network operations engineer is dedicated to enhancing network operations, diligently working to minimize manual labor and achieve Service Level Objectives (SLOs).

Our approach includes minimizing reactive operational tasks, conducting blameless postmortems, and proactively identifying and mitigating network risks to foster continuous improvement. This is crucial for ensuring client satisfaction and maintaining an engaging, varied work environment.

As a Network Operations Engineer, your role will focus on:

  • Owning the operational aspect of the wired and wireless networks, ensuring their high availability and reliability.
  • Collaborating with architecture, tooling, and deployment teams to guarantee that new implementations are supportable and align with production standards.
  • Partnering with stakeholders to ensure their network needs are being met with a reliable network.
  • Advocating for and implementing automation to reduce toil and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Monitoring network performance, identifying areas for improvement, and coordinating with relevant teams to execute enhancements.
  • Educating the network support team to empower them to help support the global Nvidia wireless footprint.
  • Serving as an escalation for network issues more complicated or highly involved network issues.
  • Collaborating with SMEs to resolve production issues swiftly and effectively, maintaining customer satisfaction.
  • Identifying opportunities for operational improvements and partnering with teams to develop solutions that drive excellence and sustainability in network operations.
  • Running network incidents and driving high quality RCS ensuring we are constantly improving and striving to deliver a highly reliable network.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 6 years of industry experience in wireless site reliability engineering, wireless network operations, or related areas.
  • Solid grasp of underlying network and security components leveraged in a wireless network.
  • Knowledgeable and ready to work on networks implementing EVPN, VRFs, and similar technologies.
  • Expertise in general network technologies such as TCP/UDP, IPv4/IPv6, BGP, VPN, VLANs, L2 switching.
  • Proven track record in network operations.
  • Familiarity with network management tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Alert Manager, Nautobot/Netbox.
  • Skills with ServiceNow and Jira.
  • Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with excellent communication skills and a sense of ownership and drive.

Requirements

  • Track record of taking operational signals through means such as SNMP, Syslog, synthetics to solve operational challenges.
  • Background in building and/or leveraging synthetics such as Kentik, ThousandEyes, UXI, Signal7, Wyebot, or others to measure network availability and user experience.
  • Experience in one or more programming languages such as Python, Go; ability to debug and optimize code; automate routine tasks.
  • Knowledge of Linux system fundamentals is a plus.
  • Knowledge in wireless technologies such as 802.11ac, 802.11ax, surrounding technologies such as WPA, Radius, EAP, 802.1X, or other controller-based WLAN technologies.
  • Experience with Mellanox/Cumulus Linux, Palo Alto firewalls.
  • Experience with Mist Wireless, Cisco Wireless.
  • Experience with security components such as ISE.
  • Expertise in automating networks using frameworks such as Salt, Ansible, or similar.
  • Previous Network Operations experience.
