Role Description
As a DevOps Engineer, you will have a direct impact on getting closer to the vision of digital coaching for everyone and be part of one of our cross-functional agile teams. You will join a small, autonomous DevOps team (part of a wider 8-person Infrastructure, Data, and QA organization) running a stable, production-grade AWS/Kubernetes platform, with room to improve it step by step.
Your core mission is to simplify the developers' world—building the automation and reliability that allows engineering teams to deliver features seamlessly to production. Because our stack and hosting are stable and we value work-life balance, this role involves:
-
No on-call procedures or middle-of-the-night emergencies.
-
Focus on proactive engineering, rolling releases, and zero-surprise operations.
What You'll Do
-
Build & Maintain Infrastructure:
Build and maintain development tools and cloud infrastructure, managing production instances and how applications are distributed on the internet.
-
Automate & Streamline:
Work on ways to automate and improve development and release processes so developers can ship features smoothly and safely.
-
Manage IaC:
Deploy and maintain infrastructure with Infrastructure as Code (IaC), especially Terraform / OpenTofu.
-
Champion Security:
Apply security best practices (IAM, network, secrets) in collaboration with the security team, and contribute to pen-testing and security discussions.
-
Ensure Production Reliability:
Monitor production and analyze production issues to resolve them by identifying the root cause, ensuring seamless rolling releases (such as certificate rotations and DB upgrades) without user interruption.
-
Collaborate Across Teams:
Work closely with other engineers (including our Data team in Spain and QA team in Berlin) to ensure development teams follow established processes.
-
Plan & Prioritize:
Participate in daily standups to align on priorities, unblock teammates, and contribute to the planning and prioritization of infrastructure work and new tooling requests.
Your First Year
-
Months 1 to 3, Onboard & Deliver:
Get familiar with our production environment and daily workflows. Take ownership of day-to-day infrastructure deployments, configuration checks, tool upgrades, and production monitoring to ensure everyone can reliably access the coaching platform.
-
By Month 6, Drive Cost Optimization:
Follow strict cost control by taking a deeper look at how we utilize resources, databases, and tooling—optimizing our infrastructure to reduce spend without reducing capacity or performance.
-
By Month 12, Master Zero-Surprise Operations:
Oversee upcoming cluster and tooling upgrades with full clarity and sanity. Debug issues safely, transfer knowledge to engineers, raise risks proactively, and partner across teams to plan and integrate new tools along project timelines.
Qualifications
-
3+ years of hands-on experience with AWS and Kubernetes in a real production environment, including public-facing applications where uptime and user impact matter.
-
Experience planning, running, or actively contributing to Kubernetes cluster upgrades and handling the resulting regressions.
-
Strong hands-on experience with Terraform / OpenTofu.
-
Experience with CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows (GitHub Actions, ArgoCD).
-
Good grasp of AWS security fundamentals (IAM, roles, networking).
-
Monitoring and alerting experience, paired with the ability to troubleshoot and root-cause production issues.
Nice to Have
-
Experience with Managed Kafka (MSK) and RDS/Postgres (can also be learned on the job).
-
Familiarity with Prometheus-compatible stacks (VictoriaMetrics), Grafana, Elasticsearch, and Sentry.
-
Experience with Terragrunt, multi-region setups, and cloud cost optimization.
-
Solid experience working remotely in a multidisciplinary environment—staying available, responsive, and able to unblock yourself and others without micromanagement.
-
Excellent communication skills and high emotional and professional maturity.
-
A track record of high-quality work as evaluated by peers, with the ability to anticipate how your contributions affect the larger architecture, risk mitigation, and contingency plans.
-
Good spoken and written English communication skills for daily collaboration across our international team.
What We Offer
-
Access to your own certified coach, AIMY (our AI coach), and stretch opportunities beyond your role.
-
Enjoy the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere within your country of employment, with occasional opportunities to work from abroad, subject to approval.
-
Enjoy 30 days of annual leave, plus an additional Volunteering Day to give back to a cause you care about.
-
No boring days; we experiment, test, and learn. Agile ways of working, recognition for fresh ideas.
-
Mission-driven work that changes lives, not just business results.
