Role Description
We’re looking for a DevOps Engineer to help keep our application platforms secure, reliable, and running smoothly. Working closely with our IT Director and DevOps Engineer on our Product & Innovation IT team, you’ll support the infrastructure behind Arrow, our network-planning software platform, and other internal and client-facing applications.
You’ll take ownership of infrastructure and deployment workflows, troubleshoot complex issues, and help developers bring new capabilities into production. You’ll also improve the tools, documentation, and processes that make application delivery more consistent and scalable.
We’re looking for someone who is resourceful, adaptable, and comfortable solving unfamiliar problems independently. Clear communication, collaboration, and sound judgment about when to seek input are essential.
Responsibilities
-
This role supports our application platforms and teams, as well as our cloud footprint more generally.
-
Your work will be split approximately equally between the Arrow software platform and other applications, with priorities shifting based on team needs.
-
Deploy and maintain applications on AWS Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS), including ArgoCD deployment workflows and integrations with AWS Secrets Manager and the Kubernetes External Secrets operator.
-
Build and maintain reusable Terraform modules and Terraform/Terragrunt configurations to provision and manage cloud resources.
-
Help manage infrastructure across multiple accounts, regions, and cloud providers—primarily AWS, with some Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)—while maintaining operational standards, security controls, and cost efficiency.
-
Build and operate release pipelines, including promotion between environments, rollback procedures, and deployment metrics.
-
Establish and maintain logging, monitoring, and alerting using CloudWatch, with dashboards and runbooks that support effective troubleshooting and incident response.
-
Work with developers to design and implement application capabilities that depend on platform or infrastructure changes.
-
Advise and support project teams building bespoke applications and tools for deployment in varied client environments.
-
Create and maintain clear infrastructure documentation, explain technical tradeoffs, and turn recurring work into repeatable processes.
-
Communication with varied stakeholders including engineering, product and other teams.
Qualifications
-
At least 4 years of relevant professional experience in platform, cloud, or DevOps engineering, including hands-on responsibility for production environments.
-
Strong practical knowledge of Kubernetes cluster management and configuration, including AWS EKS capabilities such as VPC-CNI, pod identity, and Karpenter.
-
Hands-on AWS expertise across multiple accounts and regions, including networking, S3, RDS, and Access Management (IAM).
-
Strong Terraform skills, including experience designing reusable modules and service blueprints.
-
Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, Docker and Kubernetes.
-
Experience with CloudWatch logging, metrics, and alert routing, plus a practical understanding of Prometheus and Grafana within a Kubernetes cluster.
-
Working knowledge of scripting and configuration tools, such as Bash and YAML with an understanding of the underlying logic and system behavior.
-
Strong organizational skills and an ownership mindset, with the ability to manage work independently, follow through on commitments, and stay aligned with team priorities.
-
The ability to learn unfamiliar systems, adapt to changing tools and priorities, and solve problems while recognizing when to seek input.
-
Clear written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical colleagues and create useful documentation.
Additional Qualifications
-
5 or more years of relevant professional experience.
-
Familiarity with Terragrunt, including the use of modules, units, and stacks.
-
Experience with PostgreSQL/PostGIS or other geospatial data technologies.
-
Experience with data orchestration tools such as MWAA or Airflow, and production-grade extract, transform, and load (ETL) workflows.
-
Experience with large-scale or distributed batch computing using platforms such as AWS Batch, Glue, EMR, ECS/Fargate, EKS, or Databricks.
-
Familiarity with cloud cost-management practices, including tagging, cost reporting, and budgets.
-
Experience with agentic workflows, Model Context Protocol (MCP) services, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or other LLM application infrastructure.
-
A degree in information technology, computer science, engineering, or a related field is helpful but not required.
