Role Description
This role bridges the gap between creative design concepts and the final development phase. You'll support the lead design team throughout the concepting, review, and approval process, then take finalized visual layouts, optimize them, and translate them into organized, developer-ready assets and workspaces. This is not a hands-on coding role, but it does require a deep understanding of how web dev teams build websites and digital products - primarily in WordPress (and similar) environments.
What You'll Do
-
Support the lead design team: as concepts solidify, build out supporting variations, versions, or alternates, weighing complexity against what can reasonably be achieved in web.
-
Incorporate revisions: refine existing layouts based on internal design team or client feedback, providing client-ready assets and email-friendly documentation as needed.
-
Dev-prep & optimize assets: convert design visuals into pixel-perfect, web-optimized assets, formats (SVG, WebP, PNG), and design components.
-
Manage design workspaces: organize and prepare Figma files for developer handoff - auto-layout, components, styles, and tidy naming conventions for layers and assets - including updates to internal Figma templates and knowledge-base docs when needed.
-
Jump into Adobe CC only when needed: use Photoshop or Illustrator to touch up, crop, optimize, or format imagery when Figma's quality or tools fall short (not heavy photo retouching).
-
Provide dev-ready assets: ensure all spacing, layouts, and exportable layers are clearly structured so developers can inspect and pull assets seamlessly.
-
Collaborate (mostly async): stay aligned with the creative and development teams via Slack, screencasts, bi-weekly Zoom team syncs, and project-management tasks.
-
Work with everyone: on a small team, you'll occasionally join client-facing meetings supporting the lead designer and/or project manager, and collaborate with the dev team during prep and QC.
Qualifications
-
2β4 years of experience in a production design, web production, or digital design role
-
Strong Figma skills (primary tool) - highly organized workspaces and command of design & developer tools, components, and variables
-
Working knowledge of Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator for occasional asset prep, cropping, and web exports when Figma's tools fall short (not heavy photo retouching)
-
A strong grasp of web design constraints & best practices (web-first, not print-focused): responsive grids, fluid layouts, screen resolutions, and asset compression
-
Excellent communication & time-management skills to thrive in a remote environment - clear documentation and clear questions on Slack or project tickets
-
An online portfolio showcasing clean design files, digital assets, or live web project examples
-
Reliable availability during U.S. business hours (specific hours flexible, as long as they're communicated)
