[Hiring] Staff Product Designer @Spoke

1mth ago - Spoke is hiring a remote Staff Product Designer. 💸 Salary: £110,000 + equity + performance bonus 📍Location: UTC-5 to UTC-3, UTC-2

Role Description

Do you do your best work when someone trusts you and gets out of the way? Spoke is that kind of place. Small team, flat structure, fully remote, no politics, and enough ambiguity to keep things interesting. We're independent and profitable, which means we build for the long term, not the next funding round.

Design has been part of how we solve problems since day one, which means you'll be influencing product direction, pushing back on ideas that aren't right, and building things you actually believe in.

We're a small team of people who care deeply about craft, and because we're innovators and builders at heart, there's room to explore and experiment rather than just ship to a roadmap. If you know your craft inside out, are good at figuring out the best path forward when things are complex, and want to do some of the best work of your career, we’d love to hear from you.

What you will be doing:

  • Joining our team of four product designers to work on either Spoke Dispatch or our flagship product, Spoke Route Planner.
  • Tackling complex, high-impact problems with real space to shape how we solve them, building something thoughtful, clear, and genuinely useful.
  • Evolving the product’s structure as new features are added, keeping it intuitive as it becomes more powerful, and moving quickly without sacrificing quality.
  • Working across discovery, scoping, and design, creating specs in Figma and using Chrome dev tools to understand what’s happening in the product.
  • Contributing to a genuinely product-led company, where success is measured by whether customers recommend us because the product works well.

What you won't be doing:

  • Daily stand-ups, sprints, or scrum meetings. On average, you can expect around one per week.
  • Rushing to meet an arbitrary deadline or turning tickets into designs without critical thinking.
  • Managing people. This is an individual contributor role.
  • Working in a heavily layered team. We’re small and flat, which means strategy and execution sit side by side.

Qualifications

  • Have spent several years designing mobile apps, software, or power-user tools.
  • Enjoy solving complex problems and building products that are genuinely enjoyable to use.
  • Like owning projects end to end — from speaking to users and exploring problems through to designing solutions and tracking their impact.
  • Actively seek and happily receive feedback, adapting your thinking, and iterating toward the best outcome.
  • Comfortable giving feedback, too.
  • Ask thoughtful questions, experiment when needed, and are willing to advocate for what you believe is right.
  • Are experienced in prototyping in Figma (and, ideally, beyond — whether that’s AI tools, HTML/CSS).
  • Enjoy working autonomously, and know when to trust your judgement and when to gather more data.

Requirements

  • Must live in UTC-5 to UTC+2 time zones to apply.

Benefits

  • £110,000 salary + equity + company performance bonus.
  • Fully remote with asynchronous, flexible working.
  • Very few meetings (on average, around one per week).
  • 32 days paid time off.
  • 3 months paid parental leave.
  • One fully-funded company retreat each year in a 5-star location.
  • A budget for smaller, localized, in-person team meet-ups.
  • £3,200 every three years for a new laptop.
  • £500 a year towards tech and equipment for your home office.
  • £1,000 a year for learning and development.
  • £1,000 a year for conferences.
  • £1,000 a year for wellbeing.
  • 14 days per year dedicated to learning.

Company Description

Back in 2017, we saw an issue with last-mile delivery. Delivery drivers have a complicated and stressful job, and although delivery software existed, it neglected the driver experience. We set out to create the app that puts drivers first.

We were astounded by the response we received. Drivers told us their job was far less stressful, and they got home earlier every day. Within our first year, we had almost 1,000 customers, $100k in ARR, and a team consisting of our two co-founders, Jack and Pol. Now, with a lean team of ~50 talented people, we’ve grown to $25M ARR, helping over 100,000 drivers deliver more than 1.4 billion packages worldwide; that’s about 40 every second.

Our Hiring Process

Our hiring process for this role has three stages and usually takes around two weeks from the first interview to offer. No lengthy take-home assignments or time-consuming prep - we’re happy to see work you’ve already done and move quickly.

  • Meet our TA Manager: You’ll have a 45-minute video call with our Talent Acquisition Manager, Sadie.
  • Meet the hiring team: Meet Gabriel, the hiring manager, and Megan, GM of Spoke Dispatch.
  • Whiteboard exercise: Lastly, we will invite you to take part in a live whiteboard exercise with our Co-Founder & Principal Designer, Pol.

If you have the skills and experience we’ve talked about in this job ad, and Spoke sounds like the kind of place you’d like to work, we would love to hear from you.
