Role Description
We are seeking an experienced, detail-oriented CAD Jewelry Designer to join our team on a full-time basis. The primary goal is to find a strong all-around jewelry CAD designer with real-world manufacturing knowledge who can take reference photos, sketches, stone measurements, or custom concepts and turn them into accurate, production-ready jewelry designs.
Our work ranges from clean, classic engagement rings to highly intricate custom fine jewelry. The ideal candidate should be equally comfortable:
-
Recreating an existing design from reference images
-
Modifying a design based on client feedback
-
Developing more complex custom concepts
This role requires more than creating attractive CAD models and renders. Designs must be:
-
Structurally sound
-
Manufacturable
-
Properly proportioned
-
Prepared for an efficient production workflow
Qualifications
-
Jewelry CAD Proficiency: Strong professional experience with MatrixGold, Rhino, RhinoGold, or equivalent professional jewelry CAD software.
-
Fine Jewelry Expertise: Strong background designing engagement rings, wedding bands, diamond jewelry, multi-shape stone layouts, and advanced setting styles.
-
Manufacturing Knowledge: Strong understanding of real-world jewelry manufacturing, including minimum thicknesses, prong dimensions, pavΓ©, stone spacing, tolerances, shrinkage, casting, polishing allowances, metal behavior, and structural integrity.
-
Production-Ready Files: Ability to create clean STL/3DM files suitable for direct use in the manufacturing workflow.
-
Rendering Expertise: Experience producing realistic client-ready jewelry renders using KeyShot or equivalent software.
-
Revision Speed: Ability to interpret feedback accurately, make fast revisions, and manage multiple active projects.
-
Communication Skills: Clear written and verbal communication and the ability to explain technical limitations or recommended design changes when necessary.
Requirements
-
3D CAD Modeling: Create precise, production-ready 3D CAD models for engagement rings, wedding bands, diamond jewelry, and custom fine jewelry.
-
Reference-Based Design: Accurately recreate jewelry from reference images and make requested modifications while maintaining the intended proportions and aesthetic.
-
Engagement Ring Construction: Design and modify hidden halos, tulip and floral heads, cathedral settings, eternity bands, pavΓ©, shared prongs, bezels, complex multi-stone layouts, and other common or advanced bridal jewelry constructions.
-
Exact Stone Measurements: Build designs using exact diamond and gemstone dimensions rather than relying only on nominal carat weights.
-
Manufacturing-Ready Design: Apply proper minimum thicknesses, prong dimensions, pavΓ© spacing, stone spacing, tolerances, shrinkage allowances, casting considerations, and polishing allowances.
-
Photorealistic Rendering: Produce high-quality, realistic renders using KeyShot or equivalent rendering software for client review and approval prior to production.
-
Production Prep & File Export: Prepare, check, and export clean STL/3DM files that are ready to move directly into the manufacturing, 3D printing, and casting workflow.
-
Design Iteration & Feedback: Make revisions quickly and accurately based on client, team, or production feedback.
-
Project Management: Handle multiple active designs simultaneously while maintaining accuracy, organization, and reasonable turnaround times.
-
Communication: Maintain clear, prompt communication regarding project timelines, technical constraints, design questions, and requested adjustments.
Benefits
-
Independent Contractor position
-
Remote work opportunity
-
Flexible working hours (Central time)
