Role Description

We are seeking a Tableau Platform & Business Intelligence Engineer to join our team and be responsible for the following tasks:

• Tableau Platform Administration and Lifecycle Management
  • Administer Tableau Server sites, projects, users, groups, permissions, licenses, ownership, schedules, subscriptions, extracts, and published content.
  • Prepare and maintain platform lifecycle plans, including upgrade readiness, dependency checks, test coordination, implementation support, and post-upgrade validation.
  • Assess and implement platform configuration or presentation changes, subject to security, architecture, licensing, and operational approval.
• BI Analysis, Dashboard Development and Enhancement
  • Analyze business requests and produce requirements, solution designs, prototypes, dashboards, reports, and enhancements.
  • Develop and maintain Tableau workbooks and data sources using appropriate visualization, performance, usability, and accessibility practices.
  • Provide stakeholder review support, business validation, demonstrations, user guidance, and concise progress reporting.
• Production Operations, Incident Resolution and Refresh Improvement
  • Monitor report and extract refreshes and investigate failures, stale data, broken connections, subscription issues, and flow execution problems.
  • Troubleshoot Tableau Prep flows and source-to-report refresh chains, including sequencing and dependencies across files, databases, cloud sources, and published data sources.
  • Recommend and implement pragmatic improvements that reduce manual refresh activities and improve reliability, maintainability, and supportability.
• Access, Licensing, Security and Documentation
  • Process and document service requests related to access, licenses, groups, permissions, sites, projects, and report availability in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Produce and maintain platform inventories, usage and license reports, operating procedures, runbooks, technical notes, and knowledge-base content.
  • Contribute to reporting standards, metadata and data catalogue initiatives where they relate to BI assets and reporting governance.
• Knowledge Transfer and Collaboration
  • Collaborate closely with data architects, BI engineers, and DevOps specialists to ensure coherent data platform implementation.
  • Support technical documentation, training materials, and handover sessions for sustainability and internal capacity building.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of professional experience in Business Intelligence, analytics platforms, information systems, or related fields.
• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience administering and supporting Tableau Server in a multi-environment or enterprise setting.
• Minimum 3 years of experience developing Tableau dashboards, reports, workbooks, published data sources, and extracts.
• Demonstrated experience gathering BI requirements and translating them into maintainable reporting solutions.
• Experience supporting production BI services, troubleshooting incidents, and documenting root causes and operational procedures.
• Experience working with SQL, relational databases, data extracts, file-based data sources, and scheduled data refresh processes.
• Ability to work directly with business stakeholders, service owners, infrastructure teams, database teams, and vendor support.
• Strong hands-on Tableau Server administration skills, including Tableau Services Manager, sites, projects, users, groups, permissions, licenses, ownership, schedules, subscriptions, extracts, and monitoring.
• Strong Tableau Desktop development skills, including dashboard design, calculations, parameters, actions, filters, performance optimization, publishing, and content maintenance.
• Experience with Tableau Prep Builder and/or Tableau Prep Conductor, including flow troubleshooting, scheduling, dependencies, and refresh sequencing.
• Strong SQL skills for querying, validating, reconciling, and troubleshooting reporting datasets and database objects.
• Understanding of BI security concepts, least-privilege access, content governance, permission segregation, and controlled promotion between environments.
• Experience investigating production incidents across the BI stack and communicating impact, cause, workaround, and resolution clearly.
• Working knowledge of service management processes, ticket-based support, change control, release validation, and technical documentation.
• Ability to work with heterogeneous sources such as relational databases, CSV and Excel files, shared folders, APIs or cloud query services.

Requirements

• Experience with Tableau Server upgrades, backup and restore concepts, environment validation, and coordination with Tableau Support.
• Experience with scripting or automation using Python, PowerShell, Tableau REST API, Tableau Metadata API, or tabcmd.
• Knowledge of database views, extract design, live versus extract connection patterns, and performance tuning.
• Familiarity with AWS Athena or comparable cloud query services.
• Knowledge of metadata management, data catalogues, reporting standards, lineage, ownership, and BI asset governance.
• Experience using Confluence or equivalent knowledge-management tools and Git or another version-control platform.
• Knowledge of Agile delivery and ITIL-aligned service management practices.
• Experience with Microsoft Power BI, including report development, semantic models, data refresh configuration, workspace administration, and integration with Microsoft 365 or Azure data services.

Desirable Certifications

• Educational Qualifications: Advanced university degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field. A relevant first-level university degree combined with additional qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
• Tableau Certifications: Tableau Certified Data Analyst, Tableau Certified Consultant, Tableau Certified Architect, or comparable current Tableau certification is desirable.
• Service Management Certifications: ITIL, Scrum, PRINCE2 Agile, or comparable service management or delivery certifications are advantageous.
• Other Certifications: Relevant database, cloud, data management, or information security certifications are advantageous.
