[Hiring] Senior Manager - Member Foundations & Innovation DE @Netflix

Role Description

We are looking for an experienced leader to run two of our Member data engineering teams: Member Foundations DE and Member Innovation DE. You will lead both teams, will own how the two teams work together, and will help set the strategy for how these teams integrate with the wider Member Data Product organization.

• Member Foundations DE: Builds the core datasets that represent how members interact with the Netflix Product, including data about what members see, where they go, and what they do on Netflix.
• Member Innovation DE: Works in close partnership with Data Scientists and Product Managers to support new innovation on the Netflix Product, including A/B tests and product priorities.

The two teams run at different speeds. Foundations builds for scale, engineering rigor, and strong data quality guarantees, while Innovation moves at the pace of product testing.

To be successful in this role, you need to be a strong leader capable of operating at an extremely high bar and across high talent density.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical and strategic directions for both teams, ensuring alignment with larger Member DSE and Data & Insights priorities.
• Lead the engineers on both teams directly and grow senior engineers into technical leads.
• Decide where work and headcount sit across the two teams.
• Make hard trade-off calls between teams, stakeholders, and competing priorities.
• Bring both teams into partner strategy and roadmap discussions early.
• Set one engineering bar for both teams, including shared client-logging standards and data-quality guarantees.
• Make AI an accelerator for the teams.
• Hire senior engineers and leaders who strengthen the teams.
• Spend meaningful time outside your own teams on Data & Insights initiatives.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in data engineering or similar distributed systems skillset.
• 8+ years of engineering leadership experience, including leading multiple data engineering teams.
• Proven track record of strong business intuition, product sense, and analytics.
• Experience developing managers or coaching new managers.
• Worked in a technical role at a large-scale, consumer-facing digital company.
• Experience with large-scale client logging events and measuring product experiments.
• Deep experience with distributed data processing (Spark, Flink) and large-scale data.
• MS in Computer Science/Engineering or related field.
