[Hiring] Senior Data Engineer @Cash Access UK

Role Description

The Senior Data Engineer is responsible for the architecture, operation and development of Cash Access UK’s data platform, built on Microsoft Fabric and Azure. The role works closely with:

• Insights & Analysis team
• Business data owners
• Data Governance Consultant
• Technology Operations
• Suppliers
• Head of Data and Technology

The platform integrates data from various sources, including:

• Banking hubs
• Post Office and community banking channels
• Incident and survey systems
• Reference data
• Member banks
• Public data sources

This is a hands-on engineering role where design, build and operation are the responsibility of the Senior Data Engineer. Key responsibilities include:

• Accountability for the platform’s data pipelines, data models, databases, APIs, and Microsoft Fabric integrations
• Establishing engineering standards for building and releasing data solutions
• Reducing reliance on supplier-led development

The role supports data quality and governance by implementing:

• Data quality rules
• Critical data elements
• Definitions, lineage, classification
• Access controls and retention policies

The role will also help set the long-term direction of the platform, including:

• New data sources and integrations
• Data foundations for Finance reporting and dashboards
• Governed datasets for approved AI tools

Additionally, the role acts as a business partner within the IT function, working with various teams to:

• Make data practical, trusted, and usable
• Unblock data-related delivery issues
• Clarify requirements and definitions
• Coordinate supplier actions
• Ensure the platform serves business outcomes effectively

Qualifications

• Substantial hands-on experience delivering and operating production workloads on Microsoft Fabric
• Working knowledge of Azure services around Fabric
• Strong dimensional modelling skills
• Expert SQL; strong Python and PySpark; Power BI and DAX
• Experience ingesting various data formats and building APIs
• Experience implementing validation and data quality monitoring
• Experience working with Microsoft Purview
• Ability to design least-privilege access in Fabric
• Experience with Git and Azure DevOps
• Experience running a business-critical data platform
• Experience managing supplier relationships
• Ability to work with various business teams
• Experience in financial services or regulated environments is desirable
