[Hiring] Lead Database & Data Platform Engineer @TrustEngine

Role Description

We are hiring a Senior DBA to take full ownership of our relational database estate. The person will own the database and data estate at TrustEngine end to end:

• Assess what we have
• Run a time-critical upgrade as the first job
• Set the direction and standards that mature the whole environment

TrustEngine is the product of a merger, running two stacks:

• C#/.NET on Microsoft SQL Server
• TypeScript/JavaScript on MySQL

Both stacks are hosted in AWS. Our SQL Server is BYOL on EC2, and MySQL runs on RDS.

The role sits on our Platform team and is the senior technical authority on data for both engineering teams. The immediate need is someone who can hit the ground running on a time-critical OS upgrade before year end; the longer-term job is to leave the estate in a state we can stand behind with customers, auditors, and our insurer.

We are looking for someone who wants to fix the estate properly rather than patch it, and who will be given the mandate to do so.

Qualifications

• Deep and current Microsoft SQL Server administration
• Recent hands-on experience with full SQL Server installation and configuration on a server you manage yourself
• Windows Server administration, including OS upgrades and migrations
• Most recent SQL Server upgrade performed, stated on the profile: source and target versions, in-place or side-by-side, year, and the Windows Server version pairing
• SQL Server high availability — Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering
• MySQL administration
• AWS — EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch
• AI proficiency (e.g. Claude) applied to day-to-day work
• 7+ years of experience
• Prior end-to-end ownership of a production database estate
• Experience setting data standards and reviewing schema and data-access design across application teams

Requirements

• Snowflake administration and development — preferred
• ETL pipelines and tools (e.g. Rivery, dbt)
• Data warehouse design and development
• Data lake on S3
• BI/analytics and tools (e.g. Metabase, QuickSight)
• Data governance and data quality practice
• SQL Server migration to a managed service (RDS or equivalent)
