[Hiring] Data Scientist, Energy/Air quality @CREA - Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air

2d ago - CREA - Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air is hiring a remote Data Scientist, Energy/Air quality. πŸ’Έ Salary: unspecified πŸ“Location: Worldwide

Role Description

The Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) is looking for a data scientist to work on energy and air pollution. You will work closely with analysts and communications staff to transform complex datasets into timely, policy-relevant insights. Your work will combine quantitative analysis, data integration and visualization with investigative research to identify compelling findings on energy markets, fossil fuels, clean energy and air pollution.

This is a hands-on analytical role for someone who enjoys working with diverse datasets, developing new analytical approaches, and responding quickly to emerging events with rigorous, evidence-based analysis.

The role is a part of a new unit that CREA is starting to produce responsive insights and analysis, to address a critical gap in the clean energy community’s ability to respond to fast-moving developments in global energy markets. It will combine data and analysis with proactive strategic communications, producing timely insights that can inform political and economic decision-making as well as shape media coverage.

The Unit will work to anticipate and prepare for opportunities to produce analysis, stories and commentary about how clean energy and electrification can strengthen energy security, affordability and economic resilience; and respond to events such as fossil fuel supply shocks, air pollution episodes, blackouts, extreme weather events, infrastructure failures and unexpected policy developments.

Over its initial 12-month pilot, the Unit will produce short, media-ready analysis; develop relationships with international, regional and financial journalists; and establish rapid response systems and tools that can be used by CREA and partners.

  • Develop clear and effective data visualisations that communicate analytical insights.
  • Support research by combining quantitative analysis with domain expertise and desk research.
  • Develop new datasets, analytical tools and data products to strengthen CREA's research capabilities.
  • Work closely with colleagues to shape research questions and identify the most important analytical findings.
  • Contribute to reports, briefings and other research outputs by ensuring analyses are robust, transparent and reproducible.
