Role Description

We are seeking a hands-on Data Governance Analyst to operate at the intersection of data governance, analytics, technology, and the business. This is not a policy-only governance role. The ideal candidate will work directly with business and technology stakeholders to:

  • Understand data
  • Document and improve how it is governed
  • Analyze issues
  • Turn governance objectives into practical solutions

The right person will be comfortable moving between stakeholder conversations, data definitions, data quality, metadata, SQL-based analysis, reporting, and governance processes.

What Success Looks Like

  • Trusted
  • Understandable
  • Consistent
  • Accessible to the right people
  • Measurable
  • Governed in a practical, usable way

The successful candidate should be able to take an ambiguous data problem, work with stakeholders to understand it, dig into the underlying data where necessary, and drive the issue toward resolution.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with business, data, technology, and governance stakeholders to identify and address data governance needs.
  • Facilitate conversations with data owners and subject-matter experts to establish definitions, ownership, standards, and appropriate usage of data.
  • Support development and maintenance of business glossaries, data dictionaries, metadata, data standards, and governance documentation.
  • Assist with data quality initiatives by identifying, analyzing, documenting, and helping remediate data issues.
  • Perform hands-on data analysis using SQL or similar tools to investigate governance and data-quality questions.
  • Analyze datasets to validate business rules, definitions, completeness, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Help translate business requirements into measurable data rules and governance requirements.
  • Support data access, sharing, and usage-governance processes.
  • Build or maintain reporting, dashboards, or metrics that provide visibility into data quality and governance activities.
  • Work across teams to improve governance workflows and reduce manual or inefficient processes.
  • Communicate findings clearly to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Help move governance initiatives from discussion and documentation into repeatable operational processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field required. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Approximately 2–5 years of experience in data governance, data analytics, business/data analysis, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working directly with business stakeholders, data owners, technical teams, or senior leadership.
  • Strong Plus: Experience in banking, financial services, or another regulated industry.
  • Experience with enterprise data governance or data-quality platforms.
  • Familiarity with Informatica or comparable governance/data-quality tooling.
  • Experience with cloud data platforms or modern data environments.
  • Experience automating data, reporting, or governance workflows.
  • Exposure to master data management, customer data, hierarchy management, or enterprise metadata.
  • Hands-on SQL experience and the ability to investigate and analyze data independently.
  • Experience with reporting or visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to translate between business requirements and technical/data concepts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Organized, curious, analytical, and comfortable in environments where not every requirement is initially defined.
  • The strongest candidate will have the technical aptitude to investigate data independently while remaining comfortable working directly with business stakeholders.

Work Environment

  • Remote work from home.
  • Hours of work and days are generally Monday through Friday. Specific business hours will depend on client needs.

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  • The person in this position must occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, library stacks, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and printer.
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with clients and coworkers. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
