[Hiring] Data Analyst @Courier Newsroom

Role Description

We're looking for an experienced data analyst to support our newsroom's data analytics needs on a contract basis.

You'll build and maintain reporting dashboards that track our newsroom's core KPIs, alongside on-demand analysis covering:

• Subscriber data
• Platform metrics
• Revenue
• Voter information

The role will also require turning complex & messy data into clean, well-organized datasets ready for analysis. We use Google Looker as our primary dashboarding platform; experience with notebooks (Jupyter, Google Colab, etc.) is a plus.

The role requires regular collaboration with:

• Fellow analysts and engineers
• Newsroom staff
• Leadership stakeholders

You'll need to understand what they need, translate those requirements into technical solutions, and communicate progress clearly and maturely.

Qualifications

• Advanced SQL proficiency: Be able to write efficient queries in SQL including CTEs, recursive queries, window functions, and pivoting/unpivoting of data.
• Python proficiency: Review and develop scripts for data manipulation and querying.
• Data extraction: Experience fetching data from REST APIs and web scraping when necessary.
• Looker: Create and maintain dashboards in the Looker platform.
• BigQuery or similar warehouse platform: Familiarity with fetching and managing data in Google BigQuery or equivalent enterprise data warehouse/lakehouse.
• Google Workspace: Experience working with the document, spreadsheet, and productivity tools within Google Workspace ecosystem.
• Version control: Standard git workflows.
• Voter File: Experience working with voter file data.
