Role Description

The Business Intelligence Developer II builds and maintains Power BI reports and production reporting processes for the Value-Based Care Solutions (VBCS) engineering organization, supporting multiple product teams that turn CMS public data, clinical assessment data, and payment data into the reports and dashboards our clients use to measure quality and manage value-based care programs.

• Own the day-to-day development and upkeep of Power BI reports, from data model design through published report.
• Contribute to how the team builds and documents BI.
• Run production reporting processes built on Azure Data Factory and Databricks that deliver client-facing reports.
• Help improve the data structures that feed reports.
• Work closely with Software Engineers and Product Owners, applying standard BI development principles and practices.
• Work AI-first; AI tooling is the default starting point for building reports, models, and pipelines.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Power BI Development:
  • Design, build, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models for internal and client-facing use.
  • Ensure maintainable DAX and Power Query optimized for performance and usability.
  • Document the team's Power BI development practices, including workspace organization, refresh management, and performance patterns.
  • Use AI tooling as the default starting point for report and model development.
  • Validate output against source data and business intent before release.
• Data Pipelines and Production Reporting:
  • Run production reporting processes: ingest data updates, run and monitor existing Azure Data Factory pipelines and Databricks notebooks.
  • Validate outputs and deliver reports on schedule.
  • Build and maintain Azure Data Factory pipelines; adapt them when upstream data sources change.
  • Manage source control and pull requests in Azure DevOps and prepare pipeline changes for production deployment.
• Data Modeling and Quality:
  • Design, maintain, and improve SQL tables, views, and datasets that follow BI best practices.
  • Validate report and data accuracy against source systems before release.
  • Troubleshoot issues within established pipelines and reports, identify root cause, and recommend fixes.
  • Document processes, runbooks, and data definitions.
  • Support standing client report deliverables as required.
• Collaboration and Delivery:
  • Complete moderately complex reporting and pipeline projects with general guidance and defined priorities.
  • Work in an Agile/Scrum process alongside Software engineers and Product owners.
  • Participate in sprint planning, refinement, retrospectives, and peer reviews of BI deliverables.
  • Partner with Product and Account Management to understand reporting requirements and translate them into BI deliverables.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 4+ years of relevant experience in business intelligence or data engineering.
• Strong, current, hands-on Power BI development experience: data modeling, DAX, Power Query, workspace and refresh management.
• Experience building and maintaining Azure Data Factory pipelines.
• Familiarity with Databricks (running and maintaining notebooks, working in Repos).
• Strong SQL against relational databases (SQL Server, Azure SQL, or similar), including query tuning.
• Working knowledge of BI data modeling principles, including dimensional modeling and star schema design.

Preferred

• Experience with healthcare data, especially post-acute or long-term care and CMS public datasets.
• Experience with R or Python in a data pipeline or analytics context.
• Exposure to predictive modeling or machine learning workflows.

• R and Python (nice to have).

Salary Range

$78,400.00 - $98,000.00 USD
