Role Description
This position is responsible for managing inpatient/outpatient accounts from the beginning of the billing period through the accurate resolution of the account, focusing on self-pay accounts.
- Work weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly reports and Work Lists to decrease unbilled self-pay visits and ensure timely billing to patients.
- Resolve all hold bills within 30 days of hold.
- Review and resolve credit balances related to self-pay accounts.
- Receive incoming patient inquiries and complete necessary follow-up activities.
- Initiate outgoing calls to customers regarding outstanding balances.
- Act as backup for the collection agency liaison.
Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Business Administration and 2 years of hospital patient accounting or consumer collections experience.
- Certification from a nationally accredited billing program (e.g., Certified Medical Billing Specialist CMBS, Certified Medical Records Technician CMRT, Certified Medical Reimbursement Specialist CMRS) is acceptable.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience is also acceptable.
Requirements
- Ability to use a 10 key adding machine and type 25 wpm.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- General knowledge of researching information using the web.
