Role Description

The Collection Specialist is responsible for collecting and posting payments, managing patient account payments, and resolving past-due patient balances.

• Monitor accounts receivable and identify overdue accounts to be addressed.
• Contact customers with overdue accounts to collect the overdue amount or negotiate a payment plan.
• Use credit bureau data, post office information, internet searches, and other tools to locate customers.
• Maintain records of contacts and attempted contacts with delinquent account customers.
• Resolve customer issues and complaints concerning billing or escalate to supervisor as needed.
• Communicate any insurance changes or submit regular reports on unpaid accounts and repayment progress.
• Communicate any accounts receivable trends among the team.
• Maintain a level of productivity suitable for the department.
• Answer questions from patients, clerical staff, and insurance companies.
• Participate in educational activities and attend staff meetings.
• Maintain the strictest confidentiality; adhere to all HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• 1 year of medical billing and collections practice experience preferred.
• Knowledge of basic medical coding and third-party operating procedures and practices preferred.
• Knowledge of business office procedures.

Requirements

• National Certification (PTCB or NHA) required.
• Indiana and Pennsylvania State Pharmacy Technician licenses required.
