Role Description

This is a grade range posting 11 to 12. Salary range posted reflects this range.

The claim owner will be responsible for:

  • Investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and settling Personal Lines Liability Property Damage claims (non-injury) under moderate supervision.
  • Completing review of policy coverage, incident details, determining liability, setting/adjusting reserves, estimating for damages, and negotiating settlements.
  • Independently handling and establishing a plan of action for coverage issues and multiple claimant exposures (2+).
  • Managing policyholder and Agent concerns, and internal and external resources appropriately.
  • Handling other homeowner specialty coverages and team problem solving through continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assisting with the training, onboarding, and mentoring of new hires.

*We are currently not hiring in the following locations – California, Illinois, Alaska, Hawaii.

Ideal Candidate will be located by one of our office hubs – Liberty Lake, Boston, Indiana, Plano, or Lake Mary.

In this role, you will:

  • Manage, investigate, and resolve attorney represented and unrepresented Liability Property Damage claims (non-injury).
  • Investigate and evaluate coverage, liability, damages, and settle claims within prescribed authority levels.
  • Communicate with policyholders, witnesses, and claimants to gather information regarding claims.
  • Refer tasks to auxiliary resources as necessary, and set plan as to proper course of action.
  • Respond to various written and telephone inquiries including status reports.
  • Review, respond, and investigate subrogation demands directly with the third-party carrier.
  • Review, refer, and may be required to prepare response for Arbitration.
  • Write appraisals for dwelling repairs, contents repair or replacement, and other property damage losses based on information collected.
  • Confirm or deny coverage and liability and advise policyholders, agents, and claimants as to proper course of action.
  • Identify suspicious losses and recommend referral to SIU where appropriate.
  • Accountable for security of financial processing of claims, as well as security information contained in claims files.
  • Make effective use of loss management techniques.
  • Negotiate settlements with attorneys, claimants, third-party carriers, and/or co-defendants.
  • Arrange for expert inspections involving third party or potential fraud actions as needed.
  • Manage the practices and billing activities of outside and in-house counsel.
  • Update files and provide comprehensive reports as required.

Qualifications

  • Strong competency of legal liability, general insurance policy coverage, and State Tort Law.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to work with multi-faceted systems, and analytical skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, interpersonal, negotiation, and investigative skills required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of homeowner property damage, building construction principles, and/or building estimating.
  • Proven ability to provide exceptional customer service experience.
  • Effective negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of coverages provided within various homeowner policies – Home, Condo, Renter’s, and Landlord policies.
  • Ability to manage workload while exhibiting good judgment effectively and independently.
  • The capabilities, skills, and knowledge required is normally acquired through a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience and 6-12 months of directly related experience.
  • Ability to obtain proper licensing as required.
